Today i had to drive 2 hrs north to the VA
there is a road that is 60mph for miles so i usually lock out 9 and 10 so it doesn't downshift at every hill
today i had a passenger (dad) and we were shooting the breeze on same road on return trip, had 9 and 10 locked out. turned onto another road that is 70 and promptly got up to 70 and was still shooting the breeze (9 and 10 still locked out and i didnt notice) so we get to I 30 and its 75 to 80 mph to flow with traffic , so i enter on the on the ramp and accelerate to 77 and set cruise, then traffic slowed and trucks blocked left lane so i took off cruise.
a few minutes go by and i up back up to 77 following two deputies and thought wow truck really seems responsive on the go pedal , then i notice its still locked out of 9 and 10 and is in 8th running a bit over 2200 rpm just a scooting along, DAMMM this truck is quiet inside ? ? so i unlock 9 and 10

Hi poweboatr, I enjoyed your experience, but how do you lock out gears? I'm waiting patiently for my 2023 lariat Sport, and I would like to know these things.

on the shifter you just tab down a gear and the display is indicated on dash.
easy as pie

With my 20 Ranger I would regularly lock out 7-10 to keep it from lugging on surface streets and without fail would forget to open the top gears back up when I got on the freeway. Same thought as you, "Man this thing sure is responsive at freeway speeds..."

Then..

So if I use the shifter button to downshift to 7th, that will 1) downshift, 2) allow it to automatically downshift as I slow or stop, 3) upshift as necessary as I speed up, and 4) only allows it to upshift to 7, locking out 8-10?

I assume this all resets when you restart the truck.

Sorry, I should have quoted @powerboatr. I was asking that as a question.
