Hey all, I appreciate all the knowledge I've found here on mods for F-150s, and I'm looking for a bit more that I haven't been able to find yet.

I'm getting in a 2023 XLT at work, but our fleet group went super cheap and basically got XL's with the PowerBoost. So, now I have a truck coming in with a jumpseat and work station instead of the console. I'm really struggling, as I don't find it comfortable and hate losing the storage and extra space for pens, drinks, phones etc that I have with my current 2018 XLT.

My question - in the update from 13th Gen to 14th Gen - did the redesigned interior change so that I would not be able to swap the console from my 2018 into the 2023? I'm guessing it's a hard no, but I'm holding out hope you folks can confirm one way or the other for me. I can't seem to make sense looking at part numbers online.

I realize that I would need to get some trim pieces that would integrate the old console with the redesigned dash, but if that's all it took, I would pull the old console and get to work.

The only luck I've found for getting a console from a wrecker is a 2021 console that's about 3 hours away for $1000. If the 2018 isn't an option, I will look into the 2021. Would anyone be able to confirm that the 2021 would fit in the 2023?

Thanks in advance for any advice you folks can provide. If I get to making the swap - I may be reaching out to past threads here where it's been done and looking for tips.

I got my console from car-part.com which a net work of salvage yards..it me 6 months of looking hard Till I came across one that wasn’t sky high or hammered.. I don’t think the2020 or older console will match up as they look different the trim pieces from hvac controls are totally different.

2021 will fit in the 2023. 2018 won't. Different mounting points on the floor, at the dash, everywhere. Wiring will be an issue if you want any of the console electronics to work. The only wire which clips right in is a single USB-C wire, and even that can present issues if it's not routed correctly. (The media bin cover won't want to open or stay open.) You will have a check engine light on after you do the swap due to unplugging the jump seat (the two jump seat connectors are different from the one console connector in the same location).

Off the top of my head, here's a list of things that will need a custom wiring harness:
  • USB-A connector in media cubby
  • USB-A and -C connectors inside center storage area
  • Lighting
  • Keyfob antenna under cup holder
  • Rear of console accessory outlet
  • Rear of console USB-A and -C connectors
  • Rear of console 120V outlet
  • Console shifter

I did this on a 2020 F250 - went from fold down to center console. The shifter was not a problem as it was a column shift, but NONE of the electronics would ever work correctly (even after having a car stereo guy work on it for a few hours) and the rear vents would not work either as you have to cut the lower vent plug in the center part of the dash and buy extra parts to get the air from the dash to the rear vents. Again, I could not get it to work correctly ... you will also have several issues potentially with dash pieces, but for the most part it was plug and play. I bought mine from a wrecked truck site without issues ... BUT the electronics and vents never worked properly. Good luck.

Thanks everyone! 2018 to 2023 is a no go for sure. 2021 to 2023 is do-able, but there may be some hiccups along the way.

I'd try out the 3 seat layout for a while first. It's really comfortable and has plenty of storage. Bonus, when needed you can fairly comfortably move 6 people (smallest up front in the middle lol). I refused to pay more for less seating. Doesn't make any sense to me personally.

It's a work truck, I'm on the road by myself most of the time, I have never needed 6 seats. I also use all of the storage in my console, and the jumpseat has a severe lack of it comparatively, not the mention needing to lift both the seat back and actual seat at access the small storage space that there is.

I will also hate not having the 2 cupholders and storage spot in the floor spot between the seat and dash. As it stands now, my arm would be resting on the jumpseat covering one of the two cupholders, so it becomes unusable, as well as no place to set my phone down.

For my uses it is completely wrong. For someone that puts on 6000-7000 km per month, driving ergonomics are important to me.

We have an F550 that I occasionally use for larger needs. It came with the jumpseat, and I absolutely DESPISE it.

Haha. To each their own. My jump seat is extremely comfortable for me as an arm rest even with a drink there. There’s a spot for the phone. Although the annoying thing for me is it isn’t wireless charging there. So I usually keep my phone in the cubby under the radio where I have a wireless charging pad.
