Is my transmission going out? 2021 F150 Powerboost. Just returned from a 1,145 mile round trip from central Louisiana to NE Georgia and back this past week, towing our 5,800# Jayco travel trailer. All in tow/haul mode. Last leg from Birmingham today, and my transmission started clunking/shuddering anytime it would downshift from 9, 8, 7, and then an over-rev upshift back into 9 cruising. I just had the tranny and rear differential serviced (ok a flush and fill) at my local dealer before leaving. Now, all this was while using cruise control. After a lunch stop in Jackson, MS, I decided to not use cruise, and it did fine…only an occasional clunk, and always when coming to a stop downshifting to 1st. Truck just turned 69,000 miles on it. And probably 10,000 miles of that is towing. I’ve towed using cruise a LOT! Long stretches, the ole foot gets tired. Is using cruise a mistake? Is my transmission failing?
