Is 12v power in the 7 pin plug live all time?

Its live , as long as the truck is running, But.. Noticed when a trailer is connected over night, the trailer lights will flash every 6 seconds, if u unplug the trailer the truck alarm goes off. So it is Powered. anti theft.

Thanks RCR001. What do you mean the truck is running? I want to know if the power stays on even if the truck is locked and alarmed.

I would avoid using the trailer plug. There are people that have plugged in hitch plugs or light bars and it makes your truck think there is a trailer fault, they cannot make the warning go away. I'm afraid the same thing would happen if you tap off the 12V charge wire to the plug.

Good point! Do you think we can tap into the power line behind the 7 pin plug under the truck? Do you think it will trigger the warning?

This dude I watched went all the way to the battery.

I thought there was a fused 12V back there to provide aux power for shells but I guess not or else I'm sure this guy woulda found it! Other shell/topper outlets all come with wires+fuse long enough to reach the battery so I guess that's the official way.
