Intercooler upgrade

Pulled the trigger on the mishimoto intercooler. Direct bolt in. Also popped out the intercooler shutters while I had it out.
Special thanks to Frank at stage3 for the hookup.

Was this a 2020 model intercooler? Was anything different? I've heard couplers need modified.

Well I was a mechanic for 10 years. But I do believe this is a DIY project. It would be helpful to have a helper when you’re bench pressing the intercooler into position.
There are lots of videos of this install on youtube, (same as 2015-2020)

I ended up going with the cobb intercooler on my 2021 Raptor, amazing fitment, didn’t read this thread until after, might have to go back in there and remove the slats to get some more airflow.

I know this wasn't directed to me, nor the intercooler I used, but I've ran the cvf titan V2 (linked below) for several months now and it's fantastic. Lower Temps, no noticeable lage despite the size difference, etc. I've ran several others that cost way more on other trucks. I would not do it again with something like this available. I have a lengthy write up on another forum if anyone is interested; it compared all the major intercooler that utilize the stock location.

Ok, so I've been thinking about doing these for a while anyway and I'm just going to pull the trigger. Ordered the bov last night during research and narrowing down intercoolers...Figured y'all might want my list. I have not included any high mount kits.

Also worth noting, during my research I came across a lot of log data for our intercooler vents. Apparently they are closed almost 99% of our driving time, only exception is spirited acceleration after which it closes immediately. There is data suggesting that removing or opening them gives massive increases in performance, but towing and really hot climates will not really benefit as much. Just an FYI.

REMOVAL OF THE VENTS DOES THROW A BACKGROUND CODE BUT NOT A CEL

ALL INTERCOOLERS WILL REQUIRE THE VENT SHROUD BE REMOVED

Absolutely, reach out if you have questions or anything. If you plant to tow or tune, an intercooler should be at the top of your upgrade list imo.

Everything has been great so far, truck seems to run more consistently. No issue.

Just unplugged the shutters and removed my front license plate I can actually feel a difference!! Crazy
