Good and not so good news.

I have the electrician come to install the 50A generator inlet for the house.

Ran a 30A twist lock to 14-50NEMA dog bone, then generator cable. Was able to run all the 120V no problem. I did have to disconnect the ground from the inlet box to make the truck work (both house and truck are still grounded), as many have said.

However, when I tried to run one of the A/C unit, it overloaded the truck. I then switched to the 11kw generator I have (8k running with propane). It did hit 10.8kw on the generator display, when the compressor started, and that is with the soft starter that I had the electrician installed today as well. Guess I'll either live without AC using the truck, or use truck as a back up power source.

We also tested to run the generator with the ground disconnect. It seems also working fine. Is there a reason to connect the ground wire back? Or do I need to/can I ground the generator?

Do you know what soft start was used? I have a micro air on my 4 ton and it pulls 6kw on start then settles down to ~2kw and my powerboost can handle it

also have the micro air programmed to delay starting the compressor so both the air handler and compressor don’t start at the same time

Most home AC units even with a soft/easy start device pull 30+ amps at compressor startup. This will almost certainly cause it to trip the overload on the PPoB. Depending on the size of your house you might be able to get away with a couple portables and some fans instead and still keep it moderately comfortable in the house during an outage.

When hurricane Beryl hit I ran two 8K BTU and a 5K BTU portables as well as multiple fans, refrigerators, a deep freeze, computer and networking equipment, a large saltwater tank, as well as other minor appliances off mine and never went above 4K watts draw on the PPoB system. Managed to keep the house at 75-78 when it was 92+ outside for nearly 4 days.

As for the ground, just because it ran without it doesn't mean it's not a good idea to keep it connected. Can never have too many grounding points.

I also installed the bluetooth version of the micro-air and can now power my whole house with the Ford.

Same brand, micro air Flex with Bluetooth. I also have an issue that the AC is not cooling properly right now. It was 78 when tech left but now it's 83. I'm having their manager come to check it

Might check the startup draw to see if it's exceeding 30 amps. If not then you have other items drawing power and causing the AC startup to push the PPoB over the limit. Only way to tell is see what the AC is pulling and what the baseline is on the truck.

So you can set that via Bluetooth?

When you connect to the micro-air with the app (the AC has to be running) you can see last start amps, you can also check for any errors that may be happening.
Electrician didn't show me the app. I'll ask

It's called EasyStart, doesn't require anything special, outside of being relatively close to the unit. You hit connect, as long as the unit is powered (AC is on), you'll connect and see stats.

Thanks so much. So both micro air named app I found are fake I guess.

But thanks for all the help. Electrician and his manager came back and find out there's a wiring issue. They connected to a wrong red wire which causing the issue. Now AC is cooling
