My '24 single cab has door speakers and tweeters in the A pillar. If goal is to use better components for doors/tweeters and add one sub, do the doors/tweeters count as 2 or 4 channels? I guess bottom line is do I need a 3 or 5 channel amp for components and a sub in a 2 door?

3. The components will have a crossover that connect to 2 channels of amp then go from crossover to mid and tweet. Then you'd have 1 channel for sub. Been a while since I've done audio I assume they have 3 channel amps now.

You have lots of options. You could do a five channel amp and bridge the 4 channels to 2 + 1 for a sub and use the provided crossovers.

You could also do that with a 4 ch amp (2 bridged for the sub and 2 for front channels).

You could use a five channel amp and use all 5 channels (2 tweeters, 2 doors, 1 sub). And not use the passive crossovers.

But I’m going to save you a lot of trouble and $$$, and tell you to buy a 5 channel amp worth a DSP built in. Now all of you individual speakers are tunable (eq, crossover, etc. and you have time delays). Lol.

I certainly don't know much about car audio but watched some videos by Provo Beast and Five Star...I think the wiring part is not a problem but choosing all the components I don't really understand. Are there any cheaper amp options? I just want the stereo to sound better, fuller...not necessarily crazy loud or rattling the windows. :)

Good thread--> https://www.f150gen14.com/forum/threads/speakers-best-bang-for-the-buck.12532/

I'm going with a pair of Kicker's 6x9 DSC-6930's with adapters for the doors and leaving the factory tweeters alone for now. One of the members said these speakers are made specifically for running on low/stock head unit power. He talks about it in the thread above....lots of reading, but good info in it !! Now, I just need to install mine and post about it....

In case you just decide to upgrade the door speakers only; I spoke with Crutchfield support, and they said their research recommends against using an aftermarket tweeter unless you bypass the factory one. According to them, replacing the OEM tweeter while keeping it connected to the factory harness could potentially damage the head unit. Impedance mismatch, capacitor/crossover handling and shared signal path are the primary concerns.
