How long does it take to get a VIN issued or any communication from Ford?

2014 F150XL, ordering a 2021 F150 Lariat
I ordered a 2021 F-150 Lariat SuperCrew, Antimatter Blue, 3.5 Powerboost, 6.5' bed, 4x4 on October 1st, 2021 through my local dealer. An order#, tracking# and authorization# were issued but without a VIN, I can't use Ford's Order Tracking website to find out any information. I understand that a VIN won't be issued until the truck is scheduled to be built. I was prepared to wait 6 months given everything that is going on with shortages, but the dealer thought it would probably be shorter given the 3 hour distance to the KC factory that will build it. However, the dealer stated that Ford should send me some kind of confirmation email within a few days of ordering, and now it's been 3 weeks and there's been nothing. Given some of the other issues with production I've seen on this forum, I'm concerned if 6 months is even realistic and wondering if I should cancel my order (since I don't even know if it's in the system and there's apparently no way to check without a VIN). Has anyone else had this experience? Please refer me to an existing thread if I've missed one that covers this issue.

Thanks for your help.

With your order code and sales code from your order preview sheet, reach out to FPC no more than once per week and request status. It can take months to get scheduled/issued a VIN.

Thanks UGA...after posting my question, I did find some threads that made me relax somewhat. I felt a little bad complaining after just 3 weeks when some have waited 2.5 months to get a VIN. I will calm down now...thanks for the link and the contact info, my wife appreciates your help too!

I would have given up and will give up if it takes that long for me. I'm not willing to give up a whole camping season. Already traded in my 250 because they gave me $5k over what I owed. Couldn't refuse that deal.

Update: Last week I visited with my dealer and it was confirmed that all remaining 2021 F-150 orders are being converted to 2022's. Apparently Ford feels so bad about the long production delays that all 2021 orders that were on the books as of some earlier date will be granted a $3,500 rebate and moved to the front of the production line. That's what my dealer told me anyway, we'll see how it pans out.
