I've seen issues in search, but not a complete install, so here's mine:
1. Before starting, make sure your garage door opener motor has external connections (for example a terminal block) for an external receiver +/- and power +/- (12V or 24V)

2. I purchased the following items. I have no affiliation with them but now I know for sure that these items work. They say you need to purchase the remote fob for learning, but I only did to be sure; I haven't tried it without the remote fob ?‍♂

I'm in Australia but there should be an equivalent to the above wherever you reside.
3. I used some spare power cable to wire up the power and receiver screw terminals at the HomeLink box and the push terminals on the motor. Make sure to extend your antenna wire for best range.

4. I performed the "learn" procedure for their remote fob without issue. At this stage I now have the HomeLink fob and the standard opener fob able to operate the motor.
5. I RTFM'ed the F-150 Owners' Manual HomeLink section. Programming the sun visor HomeLink button to the new HomeLink fob worked exactly the way they say it does using the first method. However, the manual then becomes vague and confusing. Luckily they refer to the HomeLink site where there is a proper explanatory video. Here, you learn that if your sun visor button flashes rapidly, you have a rolling-code opener (the box i purchased is one such) and even after programming your fob to the sun visor button, you still need to go back to the HomeLink device to complete the learning cycle. Watch the video, it explains all:

I have adt and wired the garage door to an adt module. My app can open my garage door when I get within 100ft of my house automatically with gps. The app can also be used 1000 miles away when we visit family in Colorado. I can close my garage door from a ski resort at 10000ft and get notified it's shut. ?

Most garage door openers sold in the U.S. are HomeLink compatible.
No need for something like this.
That said, I use the MyQ app so I can open/close it from anywhere and get notified if the door opens or closes. It also has a video camera so you can visually verify or just check in on your garage while you're away.

He is in Australia. I am sure they have something like that over there. ADT security just happened to already be installed in my home. I just wired in one of their garage monitoring systems for 100 bucks. My app on my 12 inch android auto can open and close my garage door from my touch screen. We sure have come a long way since homelink. Homelink though is a great system that does allow you some nice remote features when you are home.
