My Sears branded Mastercard became a Citi ThankYou Mastercard.
I got it back in 2002 when we built our previous house. Needed to buy everything, so we spent a TON of money @ Sears (mostly garage stuff, Kenmore appliances, etc.). A few years later, I just quit using it (no rewards, high APR).
About once every 2 years, they'd send me a letter that said "use it or we'll shut it down". So I'd use it to pay a $20 bill somewhere, then forget about it.
Last fall, they sent me the same letter. This time, it ALSO said: Use the card to purchase $500 worth of goods/services and you'll earn $300 cash back.
So I did -- that was one of the three cards I used to earn $800 in cash back on a single purchase (truck topper). Paid off the $500 charge before the monthly statement generated. Haven't used it since.
