I've had my truck running in generator mode since 2am Thursday morning, generally pulling less than 1k watts and it's been sipping fuel.

I noticed today, that it was continuing to idle even with a full HVB. Powerflow screen switches between battery charging and engine cold, but never shuts off the ICE.

I turned it off/on again :) and it started in electric again, but is now still idling even though full HVB.

Anyone know what might be causing that and or a fix?

I'm surprised that the key cycle didn't reset the algorithm back to ICE on/off.
Unless you have more than about a 12amp-240V draw going on the HVB.

(2800 watts)

For my Powerboost, that's about the threshold that triggers ICE-on continuously. And the "bug" is that even if the draw drops below that threshold afterwards, it doesn't necessarily return to ICE-on/off.

Note that I do NOT mean 2800 watts of ProPower draw. I mean 2800 watts of combined ProPower + Truck consumption. You need to monitor a PID to see the combined rate. Although you can just mentally add ~400-500 watts to what ProPower is displaying and have a good idea of being close to the trigger.

Hmm. Maybe that’s it. Wife used the vacuum earlier, maybe that tripped it over that threshold.. I’ll try another full key cycle and maybe a few minutes of rest.

Ford F-150 Generator mode - truck continues to idle with full HVB IMG_4234

I’ve never seen the SOC that high before. When I shut the truck off, it showed as 63%

I’ll see if it returns to normal charge cycle after it discharges.

When it gets hung up, just like driving in Sport Mode, the SOC ceiling is raised beyond the customary ~63%
But not into the 70's! ?

That would be somewhere around 300watts for running the truck, other than the 240V air conditioner compressor.
Sounds about right.

That air conditioner compressor can definitely run up the draw on the HVB and take up a chunk of the allotted watts ceiling for ICE on-off cycling

Heh. Speaking of AC - I initially forgot to turn it off. When I checked the truck the first morning, it was ice cold in there - ventilated seats on high and everything..

Let me ask a dumb one
The 240 volt ac compressor..does it only cool hvb, or does it serve double duty for cabin air conditioning

In-cabin as well. That's one of the wonderful things about the PB - you can sit and 'idle' in full electric with the AC cranked. It'll fire ICE every once in a while to top off the high voltage battery, then shut off again for generally 30+ minutes

Perfect for when you want to wait in the parking lot for while your wife shops. :)

It's kind of amazing that our trucks have a 240V HVAC compressor no differently than our home.

Having 240V+ onboard a vehicle changed so many rules. If Ford would switch to an electric waterpump on the Powerboost, the 3.5 Ecoboost wouldn't have a crankshaft pulley!

The timing cover would literally be a cover and nothing but a cover. You could stick your arm down in there safely with the engine running. ?

My parents maverick is like that we sat in 100 heat and 65 inside waiting in parking lot for dad
That sold me..
If I get another f150 it's going to be a pb

Variable speed water pump would be assume to maintain engine temp in the making electricity mode

That HVB SOC and Voltage is a new high score!
