FYI for those interested, a trip report for my '23 PB, Lariat with three objectives; 1) Leisurely trip to visit family, 2) to see if I could drive the speed limit on an entire trip for once and 3) checking the mpg. Trip was from the east coast of Central Florida to Central Virginia, then west thru the mountains down to NC with some detours along the way and then back I home. I was surprised I actually did maintain the speed limit throughout the entire trip with minor exceptions in the mountains where I was slightly above the speed limits on country roads. However, once hitting I-95 in Florida, and getting closer to home, that was really difficult ? but I did manage it.

Objective 3 was to check mpg for this trip using the Lie-O-Meter. I had already done a miles/gallon on a previous 5000+ trip out west and back and determined the Lie-O-Meter was about a ~1 mile or so off (22.9 indicated vs 22.1 miles/gal actual). This trip was Lie-O-Meter only and as you can see by the first photo, 24.7 mpg, so in actuality, probably more likely ~24 mpg. I used 87-octane from Costco primarily with two fill-ups from Buckee's...really wanted those Smoked Brisket sandwiches..

Second photo shows the DTE after a fill-up in Florence SC of 769. Florence to Daytona is 408 miles and DTE in Daytona at a stop for gas indicated another 362 to go.

Result! Really happy with the performance and efficiency, especially the comfort, ride and visibility for these trips. Appears the mpg has increased slightly with more miles on this engine. So, I guess the projected efficiency is close to EPA ratings when driven within limits...:):censored: With the exception of two battery hiccups withing the first 5000 miles and a Cat Converter failure, the truck has performed flawlessly, and I couldn't be happier. Truck still totally stock, has all the OEM equipment, including OEM batterie's, with the exception of course, a new Cat Converter....Cheers All!

On the subject of the “lie-o-meter: Earlier this summer we completed a 6500 mile trip where I carefully recorded the calculated MPG on every fill and recorded the displayed MPG USING TYE Trip-1 trip odometer. The most useful observation is that the calculated MPG varied from the calculated by + / - several MPG. Sometimes higher, sometimes lower, and occasionally very close.
My conclusion is that the observed MPG is only useful as a rough guide over the short term. Needless to say, the longer the interval the more accurate it will be.
I plan to publish my results one of these days…
Likewise, DTE, which I believe is driven by the truck’s estimate of MPG also varies quite a bit, growing steadily more accurate as the tank of gas is consumed - no surprise there. The lesson here, which should surprise nobody, is that relying on the displayed DTE to know whether or not you can make it another 19 miles pretty much guarantees that you’ll eventually hitchiking with a gas can sooner or later. Again, it’s a very useful and helpful instrument, but it should not be misused.

So true and agree 100%, its one reason I always fill-up when reaching a half-tank or slightly less, not to mention required pit stops...:)
