Forscan will calculate a checksum for those positions.. doesn't matter what is in there when you save.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but in your example, the first there represent the module, the next 2 after the dash are the block (group) and the next two after the next dash are the variable number in sequence. So the answer is that it separates the module/block/vairable. Here's what the ABT file looks like raw:

The G would be the dash if you want to think of it that way. Take this line:

791G1G10100010111AE

This is for the TRM=791, sos looking at this file, it's module 791.
The next number after the G indicates it's block 1.
The next number after the next G indicates it's the first variable,
The value is 0100 0101 11AE.

Take a look at an ABT file and compare it to what you see in ForScan, you'll see what I mean.
