2021 Ford F150 Powerboost 5ft bed.
Hello,
I will soon be starting a year long journey of full time living in a travel trailer and traveling the US. I have a 2021 F-150 powerboost.
I see the built in Ford navigation has a trailer feature to pick routes that I can go on and not take me on a road with height/weight restrictions for my trailer. Does anybody have experience using this? Is it any good? Does it have any offline capabilities?

I am debating about buying a RV specific GPS that people seem to recommend. But they are all $300+. If the built in Ford system is decent I'd rather just use that and save some money.

I am open to other suggestions as well people may have.

Thank you.

I have used the trailer feature in the Sync Nav system with good success while towing a car trailer. I'm in New York so staying off the parkways is a must and never had any problems using the trailer nav. Just be sure that it engaged every time you restart your trip after stopping for fuel, gas, etc.

I like it - way better than the RV Life app. As mentioned above, just be sure to turn that feature on in the Nav settings (or verify that it's on) before setting out for a trip.

Do you not have to keep renewing Ford Navigation? With an RV GPS map updates are free, plus you can tailor it to your RV's size.

I don’t use it myself. It works, but sometimes it can take you on a much longer and circuitous route than you might actually need. I tow a relatively short travel trailer and found that I didn’t really like or need the routes the smart nav function suggested. I could see it being more useful if you towed a big trailer or traveled in areas with restrictions.

Following with interest--I haven't yet had a chance to tow my trailer on unknown roads, so I haven't set up that part of the Ford Navigation system yet.

I accidentally used it a few times. I think it defaulted to it once I hooked up my trailer.
I found it kind of annoying cause every time I got near an overpass an alarm kept sounding.
Took me a while to figure out what it was. Seriously? Semis drive under those overpasses. Why do I need to be alerted about every upcoming one? I turned it off when I found out what was causing the alarms and haven't used it since.

If you decide you want a dedicated RV GPS, I'm selling my Garmin® RV 890 8" RV Navigator GPS. It was only used on a couple of trips. Wife couldn't handle the RV steps, so I had to sell the 43' toy hauler and F350 dually. Such is life. PM me if you are interested.

i have a great garmin for the bus...its got its quirks and like any nav system including google
it never seems to route the BEST route, always the shortest or most efficient which are not always the best route
for us over our long rv life
i do the garmin and i also do google and paper maps to route the trip before i leave and take a birds view of the route to make sure my brain understands why lola is saying turn.
