Hello all,

I am planning to order a 2021 Platinum Powerboost in the near future, but I am first trying to figure out some information on timing.

I have looked through the forum, gotten a lot of great help from Albert at Granger (potentially going to do the fly out and drive it back home thing with them) and gotten some info from my local dealer, but I'd like to avoid tipping off the local sales reps before I learn whether they are more like Albert, or more like the stereotypical car salesman.

Anyway, I have a couple of pretty basic questions:

1) When you order a vehicle, I know there is a deposit required, is a down payment also made when the order is placed, or is it made when the vehicle is delivered?

2) Is there a credit pull conducted when the order is made, when the vehicle is delivered, or both? It seems like it can only hurt if they pull credit when the order is placed, as that credit check will expire by the time the vehicle is delivered, so they would have to do so again when the vehicle was delivered

Thank you for any help

My dealer only asked for a $1,000 deposit. No other part of the financial deal took place. They didn’t pull credit, no credit application was filled out, it was really fairly quick and painless. I did sign a sales sheet that they said was needed so that Ford knew the vehicle was actually sold to somebody, but that was all I signed.

That's great info, thanks!

No worries. It should be pretty straightforward for you. The actual sale will happen when the vehicle delivers. They weren’t really even really too interested in my trade or what kind of money I would put down until the truck arrives. Good luck!

Did you decide on the overall price? I feel like they could trap you into a total price later on if you don't come to a basic agreement when it's ordered

When I ordered, I paid a $1,500 deposit (local Colorado dealer) and signed a build-sheet document with the MSRP and our agreed sale price (which was based on the Granger deal). No financing discussion.

Awesome, thanks! That's what I was hoping for

Yeah, same here. Settled on straight invoice price. I probably could’ve done a little better, but I’m happy. They said there are plenty of people offering MSRP for stock orders. Not sure how true that is, but I felt invoice was fair enough. This dealers been pretty good to me in the past. Definitely settle on a price when you place your order.

My dealer did not require a deposit when I placed my order. They told me it would only be required if I ordered something way out of the ordinary.

I originally ordered a 2020.
Gave a $500 deposit.
Returned home, and was called to say the 2020 order was too late.
Over the phone I okayed an identical order applying to the 2021.
It was a while later before I noticed that one option was missing, but rather than try to fix it in this way beyond stupid year, I opted to let it go until the truck is delivered.
I should get it it the first of Feb.

I did my order over the Internet including my trade there was no credit check and no deposit. Dealer said he could sell the vehicle if I backed out and he was not worried

I dont think you need a deposit unless you want a stock order held for you. Believe me if you don’t show up to buy what you ordered someone will! These will be flying off the lots.

That was my thinking, my dealer said they require a $2000 deposit on orders, which isn't a problem, it's just weird that theirs is so high when others don't seem to need one at all
