Finke desert trip -Australia

Just did a trip with mates up to the Finke Desert Race ,leaving from Melbourne . Did around 2500km on Dirt . Total trip around 5000km .
Truck was excellent . Very little dust in the cabin and so easy to drive long days .

How did the truck handle the pindan? Is that a MITS rig?

I'd be curious to know if you did a GVR upgrade?

Hi mate . Truck was impressive . Performed well in the sand and general corrugated roads .
Suspension is modified with Dobinsons remote res shocks and GVM upgrade to 3950kgs . They have the set up dialled , super smooth with hardly any body roll .
Would definitively recommend it . Has made it a better truck .
Canopy and tray is MW and I did the fit out myself using a variety of components and some custom . Worked extremely well and zero dust in the canopy .
Fuel economy is up there but nothing you wouldn’t expect from a 3.5T tourer .

I'd love to see some more info or pics about the Dobinson's suspension. Bilstein, Eibach, and Fox dominate the market here in the US, but I have only read about Dobinson's for several Toyota vehicles.

Thankyou . I’m very happy with it .
I’ll post some pics soon . We’re a little different here due to the F trucks being an import and only recently having Ford Australia bring in the F150 . There’s companies here doing the Fox stuff but I waited for Dobinsons to get GVM approval which I’m glad I did . Long running company and an excellent product that is equal to and possibly better than Fox . Pricing was 2/3 of Fox kit and I got another 100kg of GVM .
I’m envious of the choice you guys have in the US , we have a lot of rules that limit what we can do including GVM and lift .

If you can do it it’s worth the effort . There’s a lot to see with big distances to travel and choosing what to focus on can be hard . My wife and I travelled around for 4 years before we had kids and there’s still so much we haven’t seen yet .
You’ve got a pretty awesome back yard to explore over there too !!

Thank you! We love the area we live, but it is very different from yours and want to explore Oz one day for sure. We do 3-5k km trips a few times a year, so it wouldn't be a shock to the kids.

Keep the pictures coming, so very nice to see the F-series gaining a tiny bit of traction down there.

Ha , I didn’t realise it was an Aussie thing ! I’ve always referred to them as that .

I agree... (Exit Off Road appear to be the Dobinsons distributors here in the US.... they have an online store and I saw Ford stuff there....)

I've talked to heaps of suspension companies about changing the handling without lifting it and they look at me like I'm from another planet....

We’ve got strict rules , especially in the state I live in regarding lift . I wanted to be able to safely insure the vehicle so stuck to the rule of not exceeding 75mm .
Suspension added 50mm and I only increased the rolling diameter of the tyres by 10mm with the K03 .
Handling has been improved and the KO3 allows a higher running pressure which has improved the whole towing experience .
