That video comes up over and over again and finger pointing. Abused motor and not a 2.7 or 5.0 so not a real world comparison.

Keep digging for reasons to hate your truck. :)

Okay, I'll take a stab at it...

I "hate" my 2021 RCSB 4x4 5.0 because I grew up driving V8 trucks & cars and two years into it, this damn thing still scares the shit out of me!

It dares me to step on it and it spanks me every time I do.

...it's mocking me!

It's a 2.7 gen 2 out of a 2018 f150.

All I want to know is:
* what is the replacement interval
* whats the cost to replace
* what does a belt with 100-150k miles look like? So far, this 96k belt that looks like dogshit is the only one I've ever seen.
* is there a chain driven replacement for when this does go?

Belts all degrade. Soaking it in oil doesn't mean it isn't going to degrade. I have a neighbor who works at Gates put in his two cents and said my exact thoughts about making this something that can't be serviced. Horsepower isn't the issue, soaking it oil isn't my concern, time and heat cycles is my concern along with the insane lack of serviceability and inspection opportunities. GMs 3.0 duramax allows for inspection of the internal wet belt.

Don't you have to drop the transmission to even get access to the timing cover on the back of the Duramax 3.0?

I thought if they pulled the oil pan, there was a way to stick in a bar to pull on the belt to test the tension. I might be mistaken.

Comments on that video claiming they have 200k+ on Gen 2 motors.

Still not seeing the downside. ?

A wet oil bathed COG belt running with no oil will quickly overheat and likely produce those cracks you see. If he was running with no oil that belt got smoked. It’s like when your vacuum cleaner sucks up a sock and the belt burns up. In this case the belt is no longer getting cooled, and the little engine oil that remains in the pan likely got extremely hot. A ton of your engines cooling comes from the oil and oil cooler.
