I got a wrench on the dash. Reading out the codes I saw U061E Lost Communication with battery isolation/voltage stabilization. I found with the help of this forum SSM 50843. It talked about inspecting ground, and G102, among others. I did a cursory look and did not see an issue. I then looked at battery voltage history - see last image. I saw no charging for a period of time and voltage dropping. I did not use the truck oct 31 or nov 1, the truck was parked in a campground; but the truck charger did not work for several days after - I used an external charger. The wrench apparently turned on Nov 3 - it takes several instances of the code to turn on the light and I believe is only logged when the truck is started.
Replacing batteries - they were original and I had questions prior - did not fix the issue. I was on the verge of ordering a replacement auxiliary battery isolator and decided to take one more look. I located G102 ground connection to body - first picture - and found one wire missing a segment and another severely frayed.
Repairing the wires by using butt connectors and heat shrink tubing resolved the problem. A little luck and persistence paid off!
G102 passenger side of engine bay. Near battery:
Defect when still attached
Defect expanded; can see missing wire segment and partially intact frayed wire.
Voltage history. Shows no charging for several days. Also shows higher steady state voltage after battery replaced and successful in vehicle charging after repair.
