The driver alert on my Lariat 502A package is annoying. I switched it off using the Features and Driver Assist menu but it still keeps operating although the button is in the off position. Don't know if it is Ford software, my sunglasses, or not gripping the wheel hard enough or what. Anyone know how to get rid of the steering wheel icon in the tachometer and shut this thing off?

That is not driver alert. That is the "keep hands on wheel while using lane centering". You can turn off lane centering and it will stop the alert but also you can't use that feature anymore. If you have the BlueCruise prep package you can eventually buy that which will keep you centered while being hands free.

Driver alert is a feature that attempts to detect if you are driving drowsy (by monitoring if you are weaving too much between the lines). If will pop up a message saying you should pull over and take a break.

Thanks. That clears that up.

Little more to it than that. If you are setup for Copilot 360 and use that for your cruise control, it will warn you every 15 seconds and there is no way to stop that as far as I know without tying an ankle weight or something to the steering wheel which some others have done.... Copilot pretty much drives the road by itself now as long as your hands are on the wheel. This has nothing to do with the sensors that look at your eyes and such till they roll out the full blue cruise update.
If he is referring to the lil coffee cup thing, I had that on my Ranger Lariat as well as other latter Fords I owned and it is not frequent enough to bother you and if so, it's hours and miles.

If you don't have the Lane Centering on you would be steering yourself and that should be enough to avoid the "hands on Wheel alert".

Thanks. I was able to turn lane centering off and that did it. The country roads I drive are not always lane marked or only here and there. Don't need to lane center on dirt roads either.

Where’s the fun in that?
