The question about running boards only highlighted the horrible description our OMs give for different modes
like rock crawl, slippery ruts, the whole lot

anyone ever find a good description what is changed or watched closer by the ecm in the different modes?
i use rock crawl 4x4 low when i park the hauler trailer in the side area of the drive.
my surface is 1 Inch river rock and its 4" thick so it does present some traction issues if trailer is heavy, etc
and rock crawl seems for me to provide almost zero slip or dig in of the tires on this surface, even in weird steering positions at just above idle engine speeds

4A also does good, but will allow slip before it stops the slip, which makes a drive line bounce/jump

It seems to me the main difference between normal, eco, sport, slippery, mud/sand, and tow/haul (aside from the obvious transfer case changes) comes down to shift points/firmness, throttle mapping, traction control, and I think some boost control. I intentionally omitted rock crawl because of the speed limit on it.

this is likely much more of a generic answer than you were looking for, but it’s the best I’ve got for now.

i found a "black" site of sorts last night with some yahoooss describing some of the finer points of rock crawl and slippery. but they were pretty odd

i run 4A all the time, but now after reading some on slippery ; it may be best suited for our roads after and during rains
its supposed to modulate throttle response and engage abs more on the wheel that slips, but not engage the rear locker.

4A does that now, but i dont think it modulates throttle . as i can floor it and the power distribution indicator shows a good bit or power applied to the front wheels

but rock crawl does engage the rear locker and limits or controls throttle response speed to help keep tq levels good and grab the wheel that looses traction

what we need is a you tube video of the modes
sort of like the tv commercials of the early 80s with the f250/ 350 climbing a pile of rip rap witha truck on its bed (y)
