One of the main newish features I have loved is the digital rearview mirror. You are starting to see this in most higher end SUV's and crossovers. However I have not seen this in trucks and a truck is perfect for this feature. You can have a cap or topper and still be able to see out the back as long as the gate is up.

The 2022 Lariat 502A with tow tech and 360 camera I ordered doesn't have this or a digital rearview is not even an option.

Can anyone tell me if you can use the rearview camera from the main display as a driving rear view? Thanks for any reply or incite.

You can view the bed camera on the main display while driving, but not the actual backup camera. And the bed camera is significantly lower quality than the other cameras, so it will leave much to be desired if you're hoping to use it as a rearview mirror.

Ram and GM trucks have digital rearview mirrors and head-up displays. Ford has a lot of tech in their own right, but they're definitely lagging on these two items.

That is a pity really. I would think a truck would be the first vehicle to get this, but so it is. I did think about the bed camera but I did not know it was lower quality. Also if you have a topper on it I think most of the view would be blocked.

Maybe there will be an aftermarket maker for this digital rearview mirror. I'll have to dig into it. Thanks for the reply!

Thanks for the link Ajzride! That is what I believe every truck should come with. With a digital rearview you can use a trifold and have it completely open and not worry about it obscuring your rear view. Load up the back with a camping setup and never worry about having to only have your side mirrors to see behind you.

I was looking at a Retrax XR rollup bed cover but I keep coming back to a negative that it takes up about a foot of bed space. Wonderful looking product but with a 5.5' bed I hate to lose any of it.

Ram, GMC, Chevy, and Toyota have it. Only Ford and Nissan are missing it. It's pretty lame.

My friend has it on his RAM 1500 and absolutely loves it. I've seen in in action and it takes a sec to get used to, but once you do, it's a great feature.

The only thing I can offer about this is if you replace the mirror in a truck that has auto dimming mirror you will lose that. The auto dim driver side mirror is controlled through the Rear view mirror.

I do wish Ford ahs this feature. it is really cool.

After testing yesterday afternoon, I wanted to correct my post here. The following pics were all taken while driving. You CAN view the actual rearview camera, but there is a big banner over the center to deter you from staring at it. You can also view the bed camera either full-screen or split screen, but then you have resolution issue. Might be good enough for some...?

2021 F-150 King Ranch PowerBoost - no longer have this.
Nissan may not be doing it with their pickups, but I had an Armada and it would use the external cameras to generate a good and wide rear-view in the rear-view mirror.

I agree that it would be a good thing in my F-150.

I actually popped my rear center headrest out over the weekend since my backseat is reserved for child car seats and a dog. Looks unfinished but makes the rearview from the mirror feel a lot more open.

I remember a 2019 Car and Driver half ton comparo where the only thing good they had to say about the new Silverado interior was that rear view mirror camera. They said they felt confident it would be incorporated by the competition in the coming years as it was a huge asset while trailering. Ram did a few years later, but Ford is still dragging its feet. Of course , it would just be another electronic feature that would delay your truck at this point.

@thebigdu - Thanks for testing that. Actually that bed camera would work in a pinch as long as it stays on when moving and you have no topper. In a previous post from an older model F-150 they mentioned that it will shut off if you go over 40 mph. Can you try that bed camera view on highway driving for the 2022. That would be a wonderful additional info add to this thread.

No worries. There doesn't appear to be a speed cutoff in my 2022.
