I needed a toolbox for my new ride and had an old weather guard 13.1 ci ft box at the house.
Problem was it was almost wide as the bed. The pop outs on the bed floor were impeding it sitting all the way on the bedfloor. And causing a bad tilt so it would not open fully.
This was a no go for me because ive always liked having a toolbox without showing everone I had a toolbox.
Had to find a way to set it up so here were we go.
A little redneck ingenuity and 2 16 inch x 1.5 inch square tubes later I had a solution.
the spacers raised it enough I can get a 2x4 under it to act a strongman if I'm hauling lumber and gave the fit I wanted.
I have a fresh coat of linex so I removed the lid and lock, filled the holes after removing the weather guard logo and had the front and top sprayed to match the factory liner.
If you go this route do not spray the sides because I have less than 1/4 inch clearance on each side and no room where the bed bulges out at the bottom.
I've done rivnut inserts before but this time was able to thru bolt it. Be mindfull of the pinch weld brackets underneath.
Over all this is the first real mod I've done since I got to drill holes in a brand new truck but couldn't be happier with the outcome.
What do ya'll think
I had to add a washer to drop the latch down a smidge.
Also took the factory grommet off the lock to get the right tension
