Does anyone have some insight on swapping my manual release tailgate to a power release? I have a power-release tailgate I want to swap onto my truck. I do not need to be able to release it from my key just to release it when I push the button. Does anyone make a harness for this or would I just need some forscan changes?

I would give serious thought to that if you have locking bed cover because these seem to have common low battery /deep sleep issues, then you can't open tailgate. One of my pet peeves. No manual release options.

Definitely don't do this. Ford updated the tailgate to only open when pressed twice. It's executed extremely poorly too. I've actually put in a complaint with their CS- that's how bad it is. It's the single most frustrating thing on a vehicle I've seen in at least a decade. I tried to open it earlier today, the first press made the motor sound, the second press did nothing. I repeated the process and it worked that time. This is pretty typical for the first time trying to open it after unlocking the truck.

That isn't normal.

If tailgate recall update applied via dealer visit or home FDRS updates... Two press, hear click, and tailgate is dropping.

If you hear noise after one button press, then you might not have the tailgate recall update applied to your truck.

Do you have bed cover that restricts tailgate from opening easily?

No bed cover or anything. I have the tailgate with the step and camera plus remote release via the fob. It only makes the weird noise after the first attempt to open after the truck has been unlocked. Every attempt to open afterwards takes two presses separated by about a seconds worth of time. I had it in the shop for the DRL recall and I guess I noticed it when it came back to me about a month ago?

Either way I hate it.

If they updated it at the dealer to fix DRL they would have applied the tailgate recall update so you would need two press to unlock. It is click-wait-click but I'm used to it.

My previous truck had a manual tailgate and no lock. I bought an aftermarket kit and had a local auto electric shop install it. When the cab was locked the tailgate was locked as well so no worries about leaving it unlocked and easy to steal.

Found this part on ebay, unsure if anything else is needed or if the 22's aren't wired for it? Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks!
