This is painful for me to even type, but I lost the pano roof shade in my '21 XLT this weekend. I wish I had someone other than myself to blame, but I had placed a hand truck vertically in the back seat with its handles slightly pushing up on the closed shade. What I didn't foresee was my passenger attempting to open the roof against the resistance of the dolly's handles.

I immediately stopped the shade after hearing the first loud snap. Being the complete idiot that I am, I then attempted to close the shade, thinking it would release the added tension. That decision only led to a second loud snap, followed by the shade zipping back onto its roller in the way an old-school window shade would.

I was too disgusted with myself to really inspect it closely yesterday but at a glance, it appears that there are small black plastic clips on either side of the roof that catch and carry the shade into position. Both clips are broken beyond repair, and it appears that each side of the shade has a small tear where the clips broke/were pulled out of the material.

I can take and share some photos once I'm home, but I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with repairing or replacing the pano roof shade, or at least some general "ballpark" estimations for what it would cost to repair.

Thanks in advance for any info!

They will likely replace the entire assembly since the fabric is torn on the shade, rather than piecing out the individual parts. My only previous experience was with a Mercedes and that shade job was about $3k for the entire job (about $1600 of that was the sunroof shade) since the headliner has to be dropped. Fortunately the Mercedes was a warranty repair, but I’ve found that some of Fords prices can be similar to that of Mercedes prices depending on the item (those beautiful 12 inch displays ain’t cheap). However many components on our trucks are still priced like a Ford, so hopefully the sunroof shade is one of those items.

Sorry I’m of no help as to how much the price of the F150 sunroof shade assembly is, but I figured I’d give you a potential worst case scenario of what some manufacturers are charging.

If I remember correctly, I think it's $1500 to replace the whole pano roof mechanism, so I don't think it's gonna be that bad. This time around, I had to look hard to find what I wanted without a pano roof.

Not sure if it'd be worth it in the long run, but maybe file a comprehensive insurance claim?

when they replaced mine in the 13 king ranch
they took everything out of the truck, seats, console etc so the tech could get to all the stuff and not destroy the seats or console with FEET

sorry to hear about the damage
