He recommended changing the oil at 3k miles, again at 5k miles and after that, I should be good changing the oil in 5k mile intervals
This is pretty much how Ive done it since the late 70s.
New or rebuilt, no matter.
Filter is gonna grab all that heavy crap and hold onto it for a while. 2500-3000 is a decent point if not being hammered on. The caveat is whether the miles are hiway or city. 90% of my stuff is hiway or open rural roads without frequent start and stops

Tell me if you're losing a drop of oil at 100,000 miles... :)
I am sure it will happen but once the rings are seated that won’t be a problem.I have an LS motor with 150000 miles and it still uses no oil.I learned this from a race car driver. Beat on an engine from the start then you will know if it will last.

And gentle an engine and you can make it last even longer. My 30 year old Suburban is testimony to that...
