Leer is weird with instructions. I had a piece of plastic trim all the way across the bottom side of a hinge on my 350m start to crack and pull off. I emailed for a replacement and was told it's a spacer clipped at each hinge as part of the manufacturing process that isn't otherwise necessary or functional. I ripped them off all the hinges and it now seals better. I think they were creating a gap at the hinges that let water drip on through some of them.
If you're not going to take them off Why not tell customers to do it rather than leave them on for the life of the cover.
