I understand we will be able to use the trailer "checker board" stickers again, vs the modules, with a software update, anybody know when that update will be available. ( I use about 5 different trailers so the module route is impractical in my case). Recently again tried setting up the backup assist but so far have to use the module in a 2021 Lariat. Thanks

I never got the sensor with my truck (dealership trying to figure that out now since it was CPO), but apparently December 2021 is when the OTA update for the sticker compatibility is going to come out. That's what my salesman said after he did some research and found a bulletin about it. He also said he'd never heard of a sensor (swore it was only stickers and didn't know it didn't work) and I had to send him pictures of the plug in the back...so that was fun.

Thanks Wonder. I had a 2018 and used the stickers, no complaints, don't know why Ford went the $ module route. I preferred the dual trailer electrical connection like it was vs the 4 pin adapter, oh well. I really like the assist for small trailers like PWC's, old school works on bigger trailers.

No problem!

I'm not sure why they went the sensor route either. I think between the response people had of $300 sensors for all their trailers and the semi-conductor shortage they've started to back off. Apparently trucks produced over the summer of 2021 don't come with the sensor at all but work with the stickers right out the gate and don't need the update. To make matters worse, if you install the sensor on a boat trailer and submerge the trailer when launching the boat...dead sensor. I think this combination of things is why they are moving away from the sensor. I had to buy a 7 to 4 pin adapter off of Amazon since that was also missing from my truck. Salesman told me it was a 7 pin with brakes with a 4 pin plug underneath. Boy was I shocked when I went to pull my little trailer out of the backyard and saw a 12 pin connector where the 4 pin should have been.

I just took delivery today and my truck (built 9/3) only came with stickers. The sales guy thought I was crazy when I said they had been coming with sensors. Will see when I hook up the trailer if it really does work with the stickers or if I do need a sensor. Sadly will be a few weeks until I'll have access to the trailer again.

When I picked up my truck I had to ask for the sensor. Not sure why it was not in the truck when the dealer got it from the factory. Have not used the sensor yet but have used the sticker on my utility trailer. Works great.

Mine delivered last week had stickers. Honestly for me since I have multiple trailers I'm good with that.r
