There are lots of Diesel approved in bed tanks, but I'm not convinced there are many gas approved IBTs on the market.

Tempted to suggest that you start with what you couldn't get from the factory a 36 gallon tank. Somewhere I think someone used the last gen 36 gallon tank in their retrofit.

With all the weight of equipment, plus you, and personal stuff, then fuel....you're definitely pushing the weight limits and future trucks might have to be SD and its 48 gallon optional tank to accommodate all that weight.

Go look at Leonard Online Truck Accessories.
I'd like to get educated but I'm not finding systems for 'direct connect' of gasoline tanks on the Leonard website, can you help me with a link? Thanks!

Here is the tank I purchased from them, fall of 2021. It is an Auxiliary tank and is piped into the trucks system Including with its own fuel pump. It came with an anti-siphon valve and the fuel suction goes out the top of the tank. Oddly, I'm unable to find it on their website now. The list of gasoline auxiliary tanks is quite limited.

Another thing to consider is the hit to payload for something like this. Gasoline is roughly 6 lbs per gallon, so another 75 gallons would be 450 lbs, plus the weight of the pump/tank equipment, plus the 1000+ lbs of gear that you said that you are already are carrying. This would exceed the payload limit on many (but not all) F-150s once you include a driver.
Very true, my payload sticker says 1815lbs, so while I would still technically be in my payload range, it does fluctuate so having some buffer is always nice. I’ve seen some in the 36-40 gallon range that wouldn’t eat up too much bed space either

Transfer Flow, Inc. is probably one of, if not The, most reputable manufacturers of auxiliary fuel tank systems and their website has a wealth of resources about safe and legal systems.
Transfer Flow was the only product we used in our pickups when I was working out in the oil fields. Their products are very high quality. Having the external pump also makes it very handy for refueling other toys like atv’s and dirt bikes.

That’s likely the route I will end up going just so I don’t have to modify the factory fuel system while I’m still under warranty for a few more months. Although by the time I get around to it, my warranty will likely be up anyways ?

There is a hit on payload since gasoline weighs some 6#/g. So a 60 gallon tank will add 360# plus the weight of the tank and associated plumbing.

About 25% more miles per gallon with a diesel engine and no issues with replacing the factory fuel tank with a larger one from Titan, unlike the situation with gas fuel tanks.

Bumping this older thread.

I’ve been looking into bed mounted transfer tanks (not aux tanks). I plan to use mine also as an UTV/ATV filling tank, so I want to go with an external pump and not have anything plumbed into my truck directly. This also gives me the option of just simply pulling over and manually filling my truck if needed. My truck has a 36 gal tank already.

This setup from Boyd’s is almost perfect. I say almost because if it was fabricated slightly different, I bet we could get another 10gal or so and still fit forward and slightly on top of the wheel wells. It also should fit fine under my tonneau cover and be completely hidden.

Price is reasonable as-is. Going custom might double the cost.

Might still have to cut off the mount tabs on the ends but that is no big deal.

Anyone ever do anything like this?
