Dreaming of something more like https://www.winnebago.com/models/product/towables/travel-trailer/micro-minnie-flx/2100bh is a better description than "thinking" about a new trailer :) On the surface it seems like this is still doable with the PB.
Nice trailer! We were looking at a minnie 23 bhs not long ago at an RV show.

We have a bunkhouse with single bunks now and our kids are outgrowing have outgrown them. So considering something else now. Not sure how old your kiddo is, or how long you plan on having the trailer but, something to bear in mind.

We had a similar bed layout with our tent trailer. The only downside for us was one person would have to crawl over the other if one of has had to get out of bed in the middle of the night, lol. Our current trailer has a north / south layout so we can each get out of bed need be.

But, that was us. Everyone has different preferences!

This is one of the reason I went with the 5.0 since I'm only towing around 4000 lbs. My payload is 1920. It is a 4x2, just didn't need the 4x4.

I have, but I want many of the comfort/convenience features on the Lariat. The idea of the PB for the added torque, *maybe* some MPG and the onboard power is what drew me in. Otherwise I would be looking more at diesels.

I'm confident the truck would handle the trailer certainly as is. I just want to make sure that we can add 3 bikes, some extra chairs and a few other things that we weren't able to with the Jeep and not be technically overloaded. I'm also trying to figure out how much room that leaves us to possibly upgrade to a slightly larger trailer in the future. The trailer was intended to be nothing more than a tent replacement with integrated bathroom. Really the only thing that has gotten annoying is we've camped in the rain more so it gets old having to convert the table to a bed.

I have the Jayco 2021 154BH Baja Edition which is basically the specs at that link.
I understand. I really wish you could get a Lariat with the HDPP and Ford just limits certain options like the moonroof to keep payload over 2k lbs. Oh, well.

It was this (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0085IK9MI) but our Imagine trailers don't have load-rated bumpers for racks. My retired father in law welded steel members to the steel frame underneath so it could support torque and not just some shear strength that supports the spare tire. I can take a pic next time I'm with the trailer, though not sure how helpful it is since it was a custom weld.

Yeah, seems like the best way to go. Pics would be cool if you remember, otherwise no worries. ??

You can do better with a Powerboost Lariat if you are careful with what you order. We have a '21 PB Lariat 501A 4x4 with a payload of 1653 Lbs.

While it seems counter intuitive, Max Tow actually costs you some payload.

Off the top of my head, here are some of the options I avoided to keep payload up:
  • Max Tow Package
  • Moonroof
  • FX4
  • Power Tailgate
  • Power Running Boards
  • 20" Wheels
  • B&O Unleashed
  • Spray-in Bedliner

Also,

The Powerboost + Pro Power 7.2kW is fantastic with a trailer!

The instant torque and acceleration (at any speed) while towing has easily pulled us out of a couple of way to close for comfort situations caused by clueless/bad drivers.

The Pro Power is useful and really smart as well. The truck only runs for a minute or less every 10-30 minutes depending on how much power you are drawing.

In case you are interested, with some mods to our trailer (60A 12V charger + wiring, fuses, etc.) we now use the Pro Power to charge our batteries and run the refrigerator while going down the road! Pro Power + charger will push two 105Ah lithium batteries from nearly flat to a full charge in 4 hours.

Happy camping!!

2022 Ford F150 XLT 2.7L Sport FX4 tow and payload

I currently have a Jeep Grand Cherokee Diesel with a 7,200lbs tow rating and 1,050 payload rating. I'm looking to move to a truck and was looking at an F150 Lariat Powerboost with FX4, Max Tow and some other options. I went and looked at it today to get pictures of the door panel stickers. It lists the max payload as 1,340lbs and GVWR as 7,350lbs. We tow a small Jayco 154BH trailer with our Jeep and have weighed a couple of times at CAT scales to ensure we aren't overloaded. We were a bit under the max rating for the trailer, and were limited by the Payload and rear GAWR...with a 1/4 tank of fresh water that is at the front of the trailer and only the 3 of us (myself, wife, kid) in the Jeep we came right the max for the Jeep.

Using Ford's Spec'ing calculations without having access to some of their internal tools I came up with the following and want to make sure this makes sense.
If I calculate tongue weight from trailer max GVWR of 3,450 * 0.15...
Tongue Weight = 517.5lbs
People = 500lbs (This includes padding for the growing kid and dad passing by the 'dad bod' stage)
+ Tongue Weight + Hitch Weight (100lbs)
= 1,117.5lbs total payload, which leaves us 222.5lbs for additional equipment in the bed of the truck, that doesn't seem like much.

If I use the same math with upgrading to a 5000lbs trailer I'm already over the max hitch weight, and 10lbs over the max payload by 10lbs, so basically we wouldn't really be able to upgrade to a much larger trailer?

Since I haven't yet purchased the truck I can't take it to a CAT and weigh. Does a weight distribution hitch reduce the tongue weight? I don't really want to bump up to a F250, but I would like to be able to at least throw bikes and a few other things in the bed of the truck. It seems like I could probably do that with this trailer, but not with anything much bigger. I'm constantly seeing F150s with much bigger trailers than ours. Of course I don't know all the options on their trucks, but I can at least see that they are SuperCrew F150 FX4 and similar. Are that many people just overloading?

Thanks
Go to “2022 Ford F-150 max tow and payload package”. There will be build sheets for motor and axle configurations. I ordered 2022 F150 302A, Sport, FX4,2.7L and 3.73 axle. Something like towing 10400 Lbs and liked the payload of 2480LBS!
