Apple Maps Scrolling Laggy

Has anyone had issues with Apple Maps lagging when the map scrolls? (12" screen) While turn by turn directions are active the map scrolling is smooth however when not using turn by turn the map scrolling is laggy. Google maps and Waze do not do this. I have tried my wife's iphone and it exhibits the same behavior. In her car (Palisade with 8" screen) both phones scroll smoothly.
