Our local DT can get either and I have narrowed it down to these two. I don't tow, haul sports equipment, etc but nothing crazy. The 285 would be more for looks whereas the 275 being more functional with the "potential" mpg savings if in fact it does help. The SL is 46lbs whereas the 285 is 55lbs I believe. Pavement princess. I am just north of you in NE so I do need a good wet traction tire.I read good things about the Bridgestone. I loved that they had the "enlighten" tech for supposed eco focus on an A/T. No clue if that would equate to any real-world increase......but coming from the biggest tire manufacturer on earth, they probably know a thing or two.
My biggest reason for choosing Nitto was due to the fact that the only place that had the Ascent available was my local Firestone. I didn't want to be stuck with a Firestone or Bridgestone only product, if the Ascent didn't work out. I was replacing a set of Mickey Thompsons for warranty issues, so I was wanting the option of multiple tires during the 30-day return window. Discount Tire has treated me pretty well, so I'll stick with them.
Because it looks coolIf only on pavement, why even consider an AT tire, let alone a larger AT tire? I know, I know...
