Has another added or replaced their OEM rear view mirror with a "live" digital one? Essentially, the mirror is a screen/monitor and there is a camera that feeds the live image to the mirror/screen/monitor.

I've seen some products on Amazon but I'm a little skeptical. When someone sits in the back seat, I have a hard time seeing the rear because of how high the seats are.

I’m interested in this as well since I’ll be installing a truck bed crossbar with rooftop tent which will completely skew my view of the rear view mirror.

Ford came out with a “smart mirror” for their transit vans I wonder if it’s compatible with our trucks

Also there are aftermarket options just not sure about compatibility, I don’t really want to do much modification just want simple plug and play solution for harnesses etc.

There is a somewhat larger thread with some information about this already. Search around and it may have something in it for you.

I also want this feature and I am actually kind of shocked that it is not a standard feature for trucks. So many options for a truck that block your rear vision and the tech is already there to be utilized. Why not add it like it is added for even small SUV type vehicles. I like a model Wolfbox G840H that does not replace your mirror, it attaches to it. It is also a dashcam.

However recently Ford has an OTA update to the Sync 4 that allows you to use your center display to show your rearview on the main screen at speed. It used to have some stupid warning displayed in the center of the image, but I believe this is removed so you can get a good rear view utilizing the trucks rear camera already. I would rather have a proper digital rearview mirror option, but this will work. Other have also used the bed camera in a pinch but this is also useless if you have a topper or camping gear loaded.

Good luck with your search.

I have a ‘23 model and still have the “Full View Not Available” or something like that message there. Did your message ever go away?

I might be wrong but I think there was an update that fixed this stupid FULL VIEW NOT AVAILABLE black bar right across the main part of the view. Then the next update reverted it back again, where it has been since.

There was just a big update to 4.2.1 and I had my hopes up that this would finally be fixed, but after I got my update and tried it out, no such luck.

They can stick a 7.2kw generator in a hybrid, have adaptive cruise control, lane assist and whole host of features that were non existent just years ago, but we can't get a digital rear view mirror on a truck that is made for hauling stuff. Not to mention camping gear or toppers that will block your rear view. I find it remarkable.

On another note since that post Wolfbox has come out with a 900 model. I have been hoping the dash cams would have evolved to 4k with 60fps but again no such luck yet.

I had the Wolfbox 900 in my 21 XLT Powerboost hybrid and loved it. I had it transferred by the dealership no less to my 23 Lariat Powerboost Hybrid. Works awesome, and paid for itself already in the 21 in an accident with no deductible charged to me. What I'm looking for is the option for the bed camera as when you go thru the camera options is gives the option to add one. Hoping someone can say it is as easy as buying and plugging in, but haven't seen any straight answers yet. Ideas?

You may get lucky if the programing is still in the system. One thing you could try is to remove your current upper brake/light on the top of the cab and see if there is a "blank" connector that would be in the middle of the unit. That is where the camera is on the years that have the bed camera as standard. If it is there you might get lucky with a plug and play.

You would still need to find a wrecked 21 or 22 and hope you could get the upper cab assembly and that it is still the same size, but that might let you swap it out and connect the bed camera and have it actually work for your 23. If you have access to a 21 or 22 you could also hop up on the bed and take measurements and screw locations to see if it would fit. I would be sureprised if they are not the same size just with the camera removed for the 23's.

With that said the camera feed from the bed camera is analog and not digital so it is not a "pretty" view. It has low bandwith transfer so the picture is fairly low resolution. It is significantly better than nothing but YMMV. Good luck hunting and thanks for the words about the Wolfbox 900. I think that is the way I will need to go.

Having had the ability to have the rear camera feed in the rear view mirror while driving with my 2011 Chevy pickup and my 2018 Chevy SUV I was quite disappointed to not have this capability with my 2022 F-150. At speeds above 5 mph the camera display is disabled and I get a message that the display is not available due to the speed of the vehicle.

What is needed is a programming hack to disable the disabling of the display based on vehicle speed. Without this hack my 2022 truck is no better than my 1952 Willys and I need to rely 100% on the side view mirrors.

Are there any units like the Wolfbox that allow an additional front camera, for parking? They all seem to be proud of having the front dash cam in the mirror, which, other than checking to see the video angle, is useless.
Anyone who got the Wolfbox 900; where and how did you mount the rear camera?

I have seen anything like that. That does not mean it is not out there, and things can change by the day, but from my searching I have not seen that.

I just ordered an ARE Topper so I will probably mount the rear camera (when I get everything) to the roof of the topper or inside the glass back door. Probably outside though and drill a hole for the wire. I have seen people mount it to the rear bumper or license plate but that look is too low for my tastes. I like the high view looking down.

I've found the displays to be rather ineffective as you have to focus on a display whereas a driver's normal vision is at a distance, mirrors or otherwise. A better implementation would be in a wide FOV high-res HUD that keeps such things focused at a distance. Even when it was in a vehicle I've owned, I used it for maybe 10 minutes in total. I can view rear camera and bed camera at speed and unless there's a load I want to watch I don't bother with them. I keep my rearview mirror out of my line of sight requiring a slight movement to see it. There's just not that much going on at a place I was just a second before hand.
