Ordering an F150
Hey Everyone,

So I ordered a 502A Lariat Sport on 2/19, and paid a $500 deposit. I've asked 3 or 4 times for my order number and the salesman isn't sending it to me. I told him I understand it's likely going to be a while before my truck is built, and that I just wanted to follow the progress. What gives? Is there another way to get my order number without having to be a jerk to the guy?

Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Ted

Did your dealer give you any paperwork for the truck? My order number was in a box on the upper right corner labeled 'Order Code'. It had to be generated in order to quote your order.

The code on mine is 9999, and at the bottom of the page it was listed as 'this order has not been submitted to the order bank'

Any other member can jump in here and correct me, if I am wrong, but you do not currently have a truck on order...at least according to your paperwork. When did you place the order with the dealer? If it was recently, say in the last 7 days, I would guess that your dealer was out of allocation slots for February orders and has bumped you to March. If that is the case, your dealer should be ordering your truck today. Your salesman is likely not sending it to you because there isn't one generated yet.

All of the quotes I received from dealers all had a unique order code. Prior to leaving the dealership that I did business with, I was handed a complete "Preview Order" page with my order number - J777.

Call the dealership and asked to speak with the New Car Sales Manager. Once my order was placed, my dealer turned communication with me over to the NCSM, as they have access to the information needed to keep me updated on the truck and can coordinate anything additional I need now or when my truck arrives.

I 'ordered' and paid the deposit on 2/19.

Yeah, that is way too long to be waiting on an order number. I would definitely sidestep the salesman and go straight to the Sales Manager. I suppose it is still likely that they pushed your order until March, but that would be something they should have disclosed, if true. Btw, I am not trying to work you up, just hashing through it trying to figure out what your dealer is up to.

I understand, and agree. I was being patient and giving them the benefit of the doubt. As I said, I fully understand that there are guys around here that have been waiting months and months, and that my truck will likely not be here for 2-3 months, but I'd just like to follow it out of interest. My patience and trust is running thin now over something so miniscule....just tell me the truth. I'm going to give them until this Friday (3/5 which marks 2 full weeks since I 'ordered') and then I'm turning up the heat.

Thanks

With the Dealer Code and Order number only Ford or dealership employee's will be able to track the order. Most of the tracking systems available to the general public require a Vin number which if I remember correctly will not be available until the truck is scheduled to be built. .

Thank you. Yeah, I guess I didn't realize that the order # really doesn't mean much. I did however get the order # and the target build date (3/30/21) from the salesman yesterday afternoon. Odd to me that there is a build date but no Vin, but I do have the inventory manager's name/number now so I will call in another week or so for the vin.

Thanks all.

For my truck, I believe the window sticker popped up two weeks after the order was placed. It was another two week, give or take, until the truck was produced. I am an outlier, though. Most forum members trucks did not come together as fast as mine did. It is a good sign that I had the wheel well liners and bed liner on my build and it didn't seem to slow the truck down whatsoever.

You may have placed a deposit with the dealer and told them what you want, but until it's officially placed with Ford in the order system, you do NOT have 'an order' on file.

What has been told to you in this thread is accurate - until your dealer submits it, which they likely haven't yet maybe to due to allocation, then it's NOT 'ordered'.

You can't get a real build date without :

(a) an order number existing
(b) a VIN assigned

... and it happens in that order. So any 'build date' has to be mostly bogus.
