UPDATE: Still no android auto. I have reset the phone, reset the truck, tried a new cable, tried a different phone. Everything. My last resort was the dealership. Guess what?
"We can't do anything about it. lots of people are having issues, Ford is aware of it."
So, that's it. I have no choice but to accept that this feature does not work in my truck. Period.
Do I get rid of the truck because of this? Of course not. But seriously, fuck Ford.

FFF, have you seen one work?
On mine, it does not give me the phone's display at all.
It does:
Look for apps it 'knows',
and then operates them in/through the phone (API's?),
and displays them quite differently on the truck display.
It's like there are parallel aps, but only 1 version can work at a time (if I start phone maps, breaks truck maps, truck maps causes a direction signal to shows on phone notification bar).
I have learned:
The second phone in the room confuses it (Wife's matching phone, in list for data shortages).
The second home push (from rectangles to many icons) gets that truck app list, for more choices than task bar, last used list (I use a lot of audio apps).
and remember the reset function - it will work rolling - goes through spells 3 in a week, none for 2 months.
