I'm installing AMP Research power step running boards - 76152-0A1 - on my 2021 regular cab truck

Can anyone who has installed these boards tell me how far the running board extends beyond the front edge of front running board mount toward the front of the truck?

The eleven inch dimension at the rear mount as specified in the instructions will not work

I'm guessing that with super crew and super cab trucks, the front door configuration is the same as with regular cab trucks so information for a crew cab or super cab would probably work.

I contacted AMP Research via chat - no help at all - and by phone but did not get a real dimension other than to center it at the seams.

I can pretty much figure it out myself but I have a lot of money invested so want to try to get it right and consistent with other installations.

Thanks

Watching as I’m going to install some drops myself. SCREW though. I’m about to just take the OEM boards off and leave it until I decide what I'm going to buy. Don’t know why but they bother me. I do wish I had an answer for you though.

Centering on the seams doesn't work well.

The centered board hits the bolted fender attachment tab on the front fender.

8 inches from the front of the front of the running board mount clears the tab.

Hi Tim. I’m considering doing these steps on my regular cab. Did you get everything sorted with the install? Pics? Advice? Would you do them again?

There’s not much in the instructions for regular cab other than the cutting

thanks

I pretty much just followed the instructions and watched a few installations on YouTube. The only difference is cutting the running boards to length and shortening some wires

I jacked the truck up, used jack stands to support it and removed the front wheels – made the installation easier since I had to remove the fasteners holding the fender liners so that I could put the leads behind the liners. There is clearance for the leads at the outside edges of the fender liners.

I didn’t drill holes in the rocker seam to pass the LED light wires through as the instructions said. I bent the leads under the seam and used some mounting tape to hold the leads on the inside of the rocker panel after cleaning the area with alcohol.

I used zip ties to attach the leads across the rear of the engine bay on the plastic overhang below the vents and wipers,

The instructions say to zip tie the controller to the bundle of wires at the battery – looks sketchy. When I get time, I’ll remove the battery, drill some holes in the battery box and mount the controller there for a cleaner look.

Cutting the running boards to length had me thinking of various ways to make the cut. I thought about cutting wheels and an angle grinder, a circular saw with an aluminum cutting blade or maybe some sort of miter box. In the end, I used a hack saw.

I used a Rockwell Jaw Horse to hold the running board, two saw horses to support the ends and the old measure twice, cut once method. I measured with the end caps removed and marked the cutting line with painter’s tape.

I am thinking of installing an override switch so that I can have better control of when the running boards deploy.

I would have provided pictures but I’m running an Ubuntu operating system on this computer and cannot get it to import pictures from my iPhone. I have a normal camera but the cmos battery is dead and is not available locally – so, no pics.

Awesome! Thanks for the detailed write up. I assume you are happy with them and would do it again?

Bonus points for running a Linux laptop even though it’s the wrong disto :). I work for Red Hat; haha.

Thanks again for the follow up.

I just bought a set of amp steps to install on my 2024 F150 regular cab. Question; are the motor assemblies supposed to be identical or is there a left and right side (mine are identical). Also, did I understand correctly that you didn't try to center the board, you just installed it 8" past the motor assembly on front end so it will clear the front fender doohickey? Thanks in advance

It’s been a while but I believe that the motors are identical.

I don’t have the truck here to verify because the dealer has it repairing the rear camera button function that was disabled by an over the air update.

8 inches should work but if it doesn’t you can make adjustments easily enough.

I cut the boards to the length specified in the instructions for a single cab and adjusted them so that they would work on my truck.

I did not install the control box on the battery cables as specified in the instructions. I experimented with cable slack and mounting tie points and was able to move the control box to a section of the truck’s wiring harness toward the center of the engine bay

I did install the button that controls extension and retraction of the running boards. It cost me $60 and some extra time to install but it helps when I don’t want the running board extended or when I need to extend the boards to wash them.

So far, the running boards have performed with no issues. With them, I don’t have to hang on the windshield hand grip and drag my butt across the edge of the seat when entering or exiting the truck.
