Bought new 150 lariat last Monday. Drove 250 mi wed. No problem. Coming home Thursday AC stopped blowing. Could hear fan behind glove box but very little air coming through vents. Got home after 4 hours and 105 outside. Miserable. Parked truck. 30 minutes later AC ok. Dealer says there is a history of this but no fix from Ford. So I’m sitting on a brand new truck I can’t depend on
Any suggestions?

I've had the same issue. There's a hack that's been posted when this happens. Along the line of running the fan with no AC for 5 minutes...something like that. Can't remember the thread.

Mine does this too, all you need to do is shut the truck off and turn it back on or turn off the A/C for about two minutes and turn it back on and it will work. I’ve had mine in to Ford a couple times for this and Ford engineering finally figured out that there is a drain tube next to the condenser and it’s gets filled with condensation on humid days and freezes and closes the door to the blower. By shutting the truck off or turning off the air conditioner, it thaws immediately and starts working again.

There is a TSB out for it. They will need it for 9hours (I got a loaner). “…. A brand new truck you can’t depend on” seriously? A bit melodramatic don’t ya think? My 22 Tremor 402a is 10 mths old, and so far this has been the only issue. The fix (evaporator temp sensor) has been successful.

I understand the disappointment, you should be able to depend on the trucks major systems. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case. All of the manufacturers are suffering from gremlins. Go to any make/model forum page and you'll see issues with them all. Too much tech, but we like it, and demand it in our new products!

Ford has a TSB out for this and it was released March 9th 2022, I'm not sure how your dealer hasn't seen it yet.

Your issue is most likely the evaporator freezing due to a biased evaporator temperature sensor as described in TSB 22-2089. If the temp sensor is biased, fixing this issue will require replacing the entire evaporator assembly.

In AllData it's listed as a 9.2-9.8 hour job that requires removing the dashboard, but warranty pay is only 4.8-5.6 hours. It really makes me wonder why Ford doesn't allow for an evaporator temperature sensor offset like other manufactures. They could save a lot of money by just letting people set an offset with a scan tool, I'm fairly certain my wife's Nissan allows for +/- 5 degrees of adjustment to account for a minor inaccuracy in the sensor reading.

mine has done this once
it blew warmer air for about 3 or minutes , long enough for me to ask WTF
then it got cold again

i have read that if you take it off recirc for a few minutes the evap will thaw and everything goes back to normal. i cant say yes or no on this but it does have merit. hitting the evap with HOT outside air will take the chill out of it
i keep my temps set at 60 -63 and recirc ON, fan speed 5-7 mostly 5 after truck cools off and have not had it do this again
frankly our ac system is paltry compared to my 16 expedition.
but i am learning how to maximize the cooling in the cabin.

Makes sense. But should not have to operate like this. So we just wait for ford to come out with a fix?

This is ford truck number 5. And 105 outside for five hours with no air is not melo anything. But I’ll make a note of the fix. Thanks for that. My dealer says he is waiting on a fix from ford so I’ll make him aware of this. Thanks again

If your dealer is not aware of the fix for this ( ( TSB 22-2089 ), perhaps you should consider changing dealers! My dealer was totally aware of it and had many people report the same issue scheduled an appointment within five days had a loaner for me, and the fix was successful. I realize not all dealers maybe that efficient but a dealer that doesn’t know or is not aware of a manufacturer technical service bulletin does not deserve your support.

today when I quoted tcb chapter and verse he was aware. Said parts are ordered for mine and the other 5. They learn a lot real fast when you present them w the facts. Thanks for your help

can someone confirm the TSB 22-2089 is correct. My dealer says the TSB is not valid on Ford's site.

I forwarded the TSB to my dealer and here’s what they said for what it’s worth…….

“I see that you are definitely on the right track! I reviewed this with our service manager. That TSB was from March of 2022 and has now been updated by Ford. The new TSB states that we are not to replace the evaporator or the temperature sensor, it will not prevent the problem from reoccurring. It is a design flaw and that they are working on a solution that will prevent the evaporator from freezing up during humid conditions.
I will let you know as soon as I hear of any updates.”
