Hi

I have a 2022 Ford F150 I purchased last fall , I went and picked up a Fleetwood pop up trailer , it had a 5 pin connection and the trailer was recognized and the electric brakes worked ( not setup but worked with the truck brake slide ) , I sold that trailer and bought a 2010 Palomino Pony and it has the 7 pin and lites and everything work as normal when connected but the truck says something like trailer not detected . The trailer does have electric brakes and the wires on the trailer to the brakes look fine and not modified at all. What would be the difference between the 5 pin of one trailer and the 7 pin round connection from the other trailer? I’d really like to get this working proper . Thanks

I'd start with the trailer half of the 7 pin, making sure the contacts are clean and snug and that it fits properly in the truck's receptacle.

If that doesn't do it, it would be helpful to have someone watch the screen, while you plug it in and slightly flex it.

After that, check for loose or corroded grounds on the trailer.

I connect trailer and plug in 7 pin , jump in truck and get message Cross Traffic Alert Deactivated Trailer Attached and I hit Ok truck then tells me to select trailer and I select Pony and when I attempt to setup brake gain I get message Trailer Disconnected.

That makes it look like it is in the brake circuit.

Gonna have to do some hunting with a continuity tester and long leads.

I'd start with the emergency brake switch on the trailer.

Maybe check the condition of the house battery.

I agree 100% it’s looking like a problem with the trailer , I know the previous owner owned the trailer for 12 years and never used the electric brakes and she said the owner that bought it new in 2010 had never used the electric brakes but did have the option included.
Did a few more tests today, I connected truck to trailer with just the 7pin connection and pulled the wire out for the emergency disconnect and gave the trailer a push my hand and no change in resistance with the trailer brakes. I changed the gain in the truck to 10 and clicked Ok to the message Trailer disconnected and message went away I then applied the trailer brake slider in the truck to full and taped it in the full position and again attempted to move the trailer by hand and no difference. I also with the truck running and connected to 7 pin tested voltage at the connected 12 volt battery that’s on the tongue and it showed 13.6 with truck connected and 13.1 volts when I disconnected the 7 pin from truck. I think I’m going to have to pull the wheels on the trailer and see what’s going on in there. There must be a way of checking the functionality of the electric brakes sending power to them?

Your test didn't rule out a bad emergency brake switch.

I'm sure you can check continuity at the magnets (brake actuators). It'll just take some long test leads.

Thanks got it all sorted out, the electric brakes were shot even though they had never been used. Working fine now with the new brakes.

Just curious, what was "shot" about the brakes?

In any case, glad you're on the road now! (y)

The magnets on both brakes were disconnected from the wires , the entire backplate setup and brake pads were actually in excellent condition, I think the previous owner just never got the brakes adjusted up.
