Any one have problems with high mileage with the 3.0 diesel? My service writer at my dealership told me he has seen some problems with high mileage on the 3.0 diesels. I have also been told by a parts salesman that very few people every come in for parts as the 3.0 diesel doesn't have much trouble.

Based on what I've seen in the FB 3.0L PS groups, timing belt and y bridge recommended to be checked out prior to 100K. However, 80-90% of those trucks are '15-20. Not sure about the '21s but I think it would be the same.

There are no major issues that anyone is complaining about with the 3.0 Powerstroke.

One common problem involved installing the oil filter wrong and damaging the anti-syphon nub in the housing.

Don't push your luck and delay having the timing belts replaced at or before the specified interval.

More problems with the Ram baby diesel that they have discontinued. Same with Jeep with its small diesel engine that is no longer an option.

With diesel engines it is the type of motor oil and fuel filtration that are very important. I used Valvoline Premium Blue or Pennzoil and avoided the poor additive mixes in Amsoil and Wal-Mart brand motor oil.

Diesel fuel is very dirty and ideally one should install a large pre-filter upstream of the factory fuel filter. The diesel fuel sold in the USA with 98.7% filtration there are still 240,000 particles per gallon burned at up to 40,000 PSI and these are what wear down the injector solenoids. Injector replacement with a V-8 diesel costs more than $4,000 and so spending more for a pre-filter is a good investment. This approach reduces the particle reaching the factory filter and avoids the need to add another water separator.
