255 70 18 Winter Tires

So I'm thinking about using 255 70 18 winter tires as a substitute for my 275 65 18 tires. They are an inch narrower which should help cut a path through snow easier.

I'm running 275/60R20 Blizzak DM-V2 snow tires and I'm very happy with how they perform. Tread width does matter, but a 275 width tire doesn't seem too wide for my truck.

I've been running a set of Michelin X ice & snow in 255/70/18 117T XL for the last 10k miles. Very satisfied.

Biggest advantage is the lower price compared to the same tires in 275/65/18. 20% cheaper in my case.

Just make sure the ones you select have the right load index. A lot of 112 and 113 in that size, but there is some 116/117 XL.

I just ordered these for my truck winters. Really good price from Costco.

They are R speed rated and 115. I just hope Costco doesn’t give me any crap since it’s “it’s up to the supervisor to install if the tires don’t match manufacturers load / speed rating”. I know it doesn’t matter since the load rating is the same as the Hankook Dynapro AT2s and I don’t drive faster than 80.

Guess I just have to obey Schopenhauer, play dumb, smile, listen to the lecture from the supervisor and say “oh okay for sure I’ll double check next time.”
