So I picked up a new 2024 XLT 302A with standard mirrors. Long story short. Due to my trade in situation there was no time to order. I had to choose what they had, and I chose the bed utility package over tow mirrors.

From what I understand. it's still hell of a lot cheaper to upgrade the mirrors than to deal with a tailgate step, hooks and led bed lights.

So what I am being told is that the 21' to 23' mirrors (ML3z-17696-ca) will fit my 24' XLT 302A. Power mirrors and blis are a non-issue.

Apparently the issue is the cameras. I am being told that I could swap out the existing cameras in my standard mirrors with the tow mirrors. This would rectify the situation. I'm looking to confirm this.

So the questions I have are as follows:

1. Is it true that the only issue is the cameras?

2. Can the cameras from the standard mirrors go into the tow mirrors?

3. Do you have to take the new Tow Mirrors completely apart to exchange the cameras?

The reality is I'm in no hurry, but also know when the new 24' mirrors are available they're going to be much more expensive. I can currently get the mirrors for about 640 from my local dealership. That includes power mirrors, camera, blis, and manual fold- manual telescope.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Can't answer any of your direct questions, but will offer this comment:

If there's any way you can swing the power fold / telescope upgrade I'd highly recommend that.

Yeah, I'm sure much more $ and some more effort, but gee whiz the power fold makes a world of difference in terms of convenience in parking lots.

I realize maybe not in the cards for your budget, just offering for your consideration.

I any case, good luck with the swap, the view with the TT mirrors is fantastic!

Oh I know. I traded in a fully loaded Lariat and the power mirrors are the one thing I'm probably going to miss the most. I couldn't even imagine what it would take to install those on a 24'.

I did the power upgrade. Had to buy mirrors with the camera even tho I don’t have that feature. It took some wiring and switches. Has to set them in forscan. Not sure if you can just add your cameras to those mirrors. I can post a pic of my tow mirrors with the cameras and maybe that will give you a idea.

Here is a pic of my tow mirrors with camera. Doesn’t look like it is easy to transfer

If you buy tow mirrors for a 24 that have 360 cams you will have to swap cameras out from the original mirrors. If not the cameras will not work.

The 24 has new part numbers for the sode cams and will not work with the cams from 21-223.

I have done some more research and the cameras are definitely the #1 issue (As Jessie mentioned). The two other issues are programming the marker lights and possible camera calibration.

It looks like the hardest part will be getting the cameras out of the standard size mirrors. This requires you to remove the mirror itself. As far as the tow mirrors, I watched a video on YouTube and once you remove the rubber gasket it looks like the cameras are pretty accessible.

I spoke with a dealership that ran into this a few months back. When they did this they only needed to swap out the cameras and program the marker lights. Told me calibration isn't always necessary.

I contemplated waiting for the proper mirrors, but the dealership reminded me of how much those will cost. With all the deals swirling around right now you can get a pair for roughly $680 (MLZ-17696-CA

This will definitely force me to start using forscan. I appreciate all the input.

Forscan seems a little scary at first but just start with some simple changes. Always save before you make changes. It’s pretty easy once you get the hang of it

I did this with my 2021 XLT 302A.

I originally had regular non-powered/zone light/BLIS/camera chrome mirrors. I really wanted the tow mirrors, so I ordered non-powered/zone light/BLIS/camera tow mirrors + a unit of dealer service from from Ford online (during a sale). Took it to the dealer and had them swap them out and re-calibrate my tow mirror cameras.

The regular mirror has the camera built into the mirror outside lower corner. The tow mirror moves the camera to the mirror pillar against the door (not on the folding part). I was not forced to move cameras from regular to tow.

Again, I wasn't forced to move my cameras from regular to tow. The tow mirrors I bought online came with a camera installed.

The 21'-23' mirrors are not plug and play with the 24's because of the cameras. But because the low price on the 21' to 23' Tow Mirrors it's worth a little bit of aggravation. I'll probably more than likely still have the dealership do the calibration. I do want to learn forscan. I have the code already for the marker lights.

I would like to know if calibration can be done through forscan. This I need to look into.

I wanted to follow up. I was able to install the mirrors successfully. I installed my 24' cameras into the 21'-23 tow mirrors. After the install the cameras looked no different on the screen. No issues at all. After work today the dealership confirmed the cameras are working fine and require no calibration.

I spoke with my service department about the marker lights and forscan. Thanks to this forum I found the new value. After a couple you tube videos I was able to find where to enter the value.

After my reward points and a generous discount from my dealership the mirrors only cost $446. OBD link EX was $60. Not as inexpensive as Ford would have charged, but considering the situation not too bad.

I considered power fold and power telescope but I was well over $1000 plus chrome delete. At this time just not worth it.
