I am planning on building out a full size truck 1/2 or 3/4 ton for an overlander. I currently am rocking a Bronco, that is getting moved to trail duty, from overland duty.

Am I missing anything mechanically (For an overland build) by going with a STX versus a different trim or option package? Drivetrain, steering, different knuckles, different cooling capacities, etc?

The only options on the STX in question is the tow package, 3.73s and a locking rear differential.

I was looking at a Tremor with the high package for the Torsen LSD, but it is $30k more than the STX, quite a lot of money there...

I am an automotive engineer and can do any modification myself.

The plans would be a front winch bumper (Maybe the ADD stealthfighter), suspension, bed rack for RTT and attachments, tonneau cover to keep dust and water out.

Plus the Ford Performance Supercharger, because it is awesome.

Truth be told you can make just about any trim Level do what you need with the right parts and 4WD (of course). Tow package isnt needed unless you plan to tow of course. The rear locker is always beneficial. 3.73 gears are nice too but if you're not towing not quite as much benefit maybe for your particular build, but are still nice to have for down the road should you "need" them.

Good luck on getting the right set up for yourself and when you're ready to start getting that thing tricked out with some gear hit us up! We'd love to help get you the right components to get your truck built the way you'd like it.

STX would be a great starting package though the XLT brings more features for about the same price** (XLTs seem to have better discounts making them about the same price at most dealers). I'm preferential to a XLT at least for 24 due to the cameras coming standard (think 25 deletes them again), power driver seat, 360 zone lighting w/ mirror spotlights. Add hi-loc transfer case swap, tremor knuckles, tremor half shafts, torsen diff (~$4k). While 360 lighting and cameras can be added, cost to do so washes + let ford handle warranty.

When I pull up STX/XLT 4x4 5.0s in N. GA (auto trader link within 300m), I keep seeing trucks like this mixed in with the STXs at the same price and the 302a brings even more features like power/heated seats, PTS, door keypad. Same offers are still available like 2.9/72mo if you're GA address (not shown, not part of summer promo). I posted what I was able to get a family member using my $2500 PCO. Those guys were pretty straightforward to deal with and had me a terms sheet in-hand before we took the trip to make the purchase. Take their listed price with magic discounts and add about $3-4k (some trucks list the price before the sticker's package discounts to make it look bigger) if they're discounting that heavily on STX that kinda skews my previous statement on pricing. Unlike many dealers who say "well you won't service here", stivers is more than happy to just move product. We dealt with the one in montgomery.

Good luck -- Incentives kick over at the end of the month

Just saw the AT link sorted by relevance, drop it to low-to-high. Stivers does have a $7 or 800 doc fee, but man so many dealers want doc fee and $800-2k worth of pure bullshit they add on. If a dealer won't send you a terms sheet before you go to them, you're wasting your time. Not even 2 months ago I dealt with dozens of dealers from OK to NC to FL in the purchase of 2 fords -- soo much BS out there they try and tack on. Terms sheet, terms sheet, terms sheet -- It comes from one of the sales managers and gets you down to the bottom line.

Update:

Purchased a 2024 XLT 302a with Tow/ Haul and Black Appearance. Oh and I went with the Coyote so I can put the Ford Performance supercharger on.

Thank you all for the recommendations.
