2023 Lariat PB BAP
I picked up a new 2023 Lariat Powerboost 502A with black appearance package. Well optioned truck with Avalanche exterior, panoramic roof, factory liner, factory hard tonneau cover ( the nice one that sits flat), FX4, power tailgate, 360 cameras, power running boards and a few other things. They sure weren't giving it away and in Canada sticker came in at $94K Canadian (yikes!). I'm coming out of a 2016 XLT 302A, every option, 5.0 with 3.73 gears. F150s are a third vehicle for me and I primarily use them for toy hauling and running to the lake house in the summer / snowmobile trips up north in the winer, so I really don't put much mileage on the truck (about 10K miles/year)

The like list:
- Love the avalanche color, the moment I saw it I had to have it. I wanted Lead Foot last time around (ended up with magnetic grey) but this color is unique and it pops
- the Black appearance package, it replaces the maroon coloured interior bits with a nice dark grey, black ford badges, dual exhaust with black out exhaust tips and the Tremor hood. I love this package and wouldn't have a Lariat without it! Its pretty much exactly what I'd want to do cosmetics wise to a new truck.
- Fuel economy, its a new truck, I've gotten sticker mileage on it around town driving (sticker is 21.6MPG) for a longer highway run (400kms or about 250 miles) I got 20 MPG. I drive faster than 80% of other vehicles on the road typically. I'm really happy so far and in line with what I expected. I got 16.6MPG out of my 5.0 so nice improvement and it will get better over time.
- POWER. Power is why I bought this engine (not economy) and it doesn't disappoint. 570 torque is felt immediately and the power below 4000 rpm is spectacular. power over 4000 is similar to the 5.0 w/ 3.73 gears (specifically this combo). it's the way it gains the speed that I particularly like, its just effortless..no drama, no bullshit noise, just leaves a feeling of a super competent machine!. The powerboost is the go fast option if you plan on staying with a stock powertrain (which I do).
-Sound - the twin pipes make it sound great, another reason to spring for the BAP package!
-I've always seen the F150 as the most practical vehicle on the planet, and the pro power is a gem, absolutely pay up for the 7.2Kw power, I was out of power for 2 days during an ice storm last month and the F150 was running most of the house!!
- the way it goes all electric as you enter a town on a country road...nice touch, keeps things quiet where people are then opens up as you get back to some open road.
- the transmission is snappy through the gears and considering its new, I was very impressed with it. That said I think I'd prefer it as an 8 speed vs a 10 speed.

The dislikes:
- for the sticker price they want to charge now, Ford needs to big time improve fit and finish. Panel gaps are not good compared to a similar price point German car. They need to up their game on this big time at these pricing levels. I didn't care when these were $60K but they are starting to push $100K now and there are many very well built vehicles at this price point. Big disappointment with the caveat that it's at this price point that I'm making this comment. All the parts are the right ones, they just need to spend time with say, an Audi Q7 or similar price and see how well the body fits together. (yeah I get that its a truck, but still).
- I don't like the way it launches off the line..it always goes into gas motor mode, but the transition from off the line electric to engine started is clunky and needs work to refine the transition
- I don't like the way the gas engine will start mid corner when under electric power, it upsets the balance of the chassis and just makes it feel not well thought out. they need to spend some R&D time on programming clearing this up.

Overall:
An awesome truck. Know what you're buying. The hybrid type is the go fast type (similar to many sports cars) not the fuel sipping econobox type (Prius). This is where you get your cake and eat it too diesel like torque (without all the new diesel nonsense) Fuel Economy is fantastic - for a 430hp/570 torque vehicle ( know what you're buying).

Hope this helps someone considering buying this truck/powertrain!
