Sealing sides of tailgate = no issues for me. I didn't seal the bottom of tailgate - I'm running a Putco Blade Tailgate Light Bar.

I used a foam cannon (do by by hand) and products from Chemical Guys. A lot of their products are also found in the automotive section of Walmart. Never had issues with affecting my paint It ends up glassy smooth - with a great wet type shine. 100% comfortable using their products.

Don't know what casued this - but it's not normal. Mine does not look like this.
