I compared the shocks side by side when I had disassembled the stock shock. The only visible difference is a possible slight difference in the fully extended shaft length which wouldn’t really have any affect when the truck weight is on the spring. Other than that, the only thing I can think is...
Short version: all 4 is much better than just rears. Definitely worth it. I’m not sure why bilstein hasn’t released fronts for 21+ 2wd trucks, the 2015-2022 installed without issue. Will report more when I’ve driven more.
Long version:
they shipped mine separately also and I got mine on...
Hit a new personal best 26.9 mpg over 417 miles, hand calculated at the pump. 87 octane. Highway commute at 60 mph. ‘21 CCSB 2.7EB 3.55s 2wd.
Also took a trip from Wilmington, NC to Indianapolis, IN and back. Whenever I could, my cruise was set at 75 and I do drive for efficiency while in the...
Technically I wasn’t in a hurry either but the scratches weren’t so bad that I wanted to wait either. And I checked the directions and compared the two hardware bags and I still have all the hardware, amazingly nothing fell out of the big hole in the bag.
American trucks has a good chat feature...
Only did one side today. Had to stop working and throw some pork chops on the grill for dinner. I did drive the truck up and down the street in the neighborhood tho. First impressions are the same improvements as the rear. The front feels much better controlled. The passenger side (last stock...
Funny enough, I am installing these on my truck right now. If you get the bilstein part number from American Trucks and then look that up on the bilstein site, it’s really a 2015-2020 part. However, I have completed one side and everything went together fine.
You could check the part numbers on the bilstein site. The rear shocks are the same for 15-22, idk about 4wd vs 2wd tho.
Just drove about 1800 miles in a 5 day trip. The 4600s are definitely soft and I would be fine if it was stiffer but the shocks that came on my truck were pretty much not...
I believe the scales will use a measurement of the squat (suspension location sensor) like some manufacturers continuously variable suspensions. if you do anything to affect spring rates, it will affect the scales so things like the RAS or swapping any of the springs. Doesn’t sound like you’re...
I installed mine exactly as the original shocks are installed, Which would be boot up. I took several pics of each original shock and installed the bilstein exactly the same, even down to which side the nut and bolt were on. Internet says torque spec is 66 ft lbs
So you leveled your truck and now you want to lift the rear to get the rake back so it doesn’t squat when loaded. Isn’t the obvious solution to take the leveling kit off?
The ram 2500 has coils in the rear and that is a 10k GVWR vehicle with 3k+ payload in gas trucks. Payload is not the reason. Coils can support plenty of payload for an F150/1500 class truck.
Cost is the reason. Maybe they are spreading out their development dollars. A 5 link suspension is much...
from a suspension standpoint, a bump or a change of direction mid corner is an “upset”
Definitely need better shocks to control the stiff rear end of max tow and those heavy 20” wheels. With the max tow stiff springs and adding a rear Sway bar will make the rear end very stiff and without...
new shocks could help improve this but part of the issue is just a symptom of a solid rear axle. Best you can do is to maintain contact with the road with better shocks but when a solid axle is upset in a corner, oversteer can happen.
or slow down.
Does your lariat have 20” wheels? Lower trim...
The fronts are available for the 4x4 trucks but apparently not for my 2wd truck.
another update, it seems after a few miles the rears have softened just a smidge. Just taken the edge off the small quick bumps. Honestly would be happier if they were a bit stiffer over the large undulations but...
yes I did have that issue before the bilsteins. Turning at low speeds like in parking lots or turning into a driveway, specially if there was a curb, would cause the truck to rock side to side. That is almost completely gone now with just the rear shocks. i imagine once I have all 4 shocks...
Most manufacturers have rear shocks for the 14th Gen available. I just installed bilstein 4600s on the rear of my stock height truck. Very happy. Will install fronts when available
Mine were 33-253213 for CCSB 2.7EB 2wd
I went to Bilstein USA website and put in the info for my truck to find the part number bilstein lists for my truck. then I made sure it was the same part on the website I was buying from.
I am in the process of moving to an area with many more hills and winding roads. I am going to revisit the helwig after I get all 4 shocks on the truck and see how the truck handles. I’ll likely only go with the softer setting on the bar, if it is even necessary, to not change the roll stiffness...
I considered the rear sway bar but due to its cost and how much better the bilsteins control the truck, I think I’m gonna stick with the shocks. I suggest doing the shocks cause they are much cheaper and then Revisit the sway bar after you’ve put some miles on the new shocks.
The ride is...
