You won't get emails. Vehicles are typically scheduled on Thursdays. F150s won't be scheduled tomorrow according to Blue Oval Forums. I've seen threads on here saying 21 orders won't get allocation at all.... I wouldn't be surprised if your dealer tells you to re-order a 22 or does so on your behalf.

You'll want to check in with them (I'd say weekly, probably Fridays) to determine if you've been assigned a VIN & build date.

Hopefully they do it for and not leaving me in limbo and forgotten.

Just stay on your dealer to get you the VIN, and in the future never pay a deposit.

should not be an issue at all.

I ordered a 2020 in Aug last year, and got a call later in the day telling me the order banks had closed for 2020.
I told the dealer to go ahead and order a ‘21 as close as possible to the 20.
I was that dealers first ‘21 order for retail
They were also held to the same pricing structure they offered on the truck that could not be obtained. ( worked well for me as it actually came out about $1000 less than the 20 would have.)
I was a bit apprehensive about it as I had no idea what the 21 trucks were gonna look like, but I was pleasantly pleased with everything except the misrepresentation of interior color layouts.

I just looked at the 22 order guide, and it appears to be exactly the same as the 21 for the XLT levels, so not a lot of new stuff to be anxious about.
Just a couple of color deletions and one color add.

How do you do that? The first dealer I talked to wanted 20k down to place the order due to it being a "rare" truck with the powerstroke. Made the 1k down I paid for my order seem minimal!

YIKES! Run, don’t walk from that one lol.

500 is pretty much the standard and it goes to your final down payment so no biggie.

Seriously. I don't know what the first dealer was doing. Unfortunately they are my closest dealer about 5 miles away, but I won't be going back! They came back with, "how about just $10k down? Ok, well, we'd do the order for $5k." Umm, just no.

I put an order in on the 1st and haven’t gotten a vin yet. They told me it would be about 2-3 weeks before I got it.

Damn greedy ass ones. There are better fair dealers out there. They’ll tell you right away they don’t mark up above msrp.

Thanks for looking that up Bryan! Yeah I saw everything I got still works out for me as it is. Other than the cool black package. But I’m happy with the sport pkg. I know a buddy that wanted that green guess I gotta tell him the sad new about that guard green being obsolete.

This most likely is a 2022 order. Call your dealer back and verify. This thread seems to indicate many dealers are saying orders are now for 2022 model year.

No more 2021 orders

If you are limited in dealers around you and they won't budge, I guess you just decide how much you want the truck. But I have never in my life paid a deposit and I have had almost 20 Fords between at least five Ford dealers in three states. It is not a Ford requirement by any stretch, so if the dealer is asking it's a dealer policy, and you just have to see how much they intend to stick to it.

I wouldn't worry as much about $500 most of the time, but with how long orders have been taking and how many times I have seen people find the truck they want at another dealer between time of order and arrival, you are getting yourself stuck to one method (assuming they aren't super lenient on what gets you your deposit back).

So I definitely don't agree it's "no big deal", it can be a very big deal, especially in the current environment where trucks are taking either 5 weeks or 5 months and there is no telling what end you will land on.
