Thanks Bob, I can hardly wait to drive it home. I’m thinking about putting a leveling kit on the front, what are your thoughts?
I generally don't adjust but I do like the level look. I will have to see it when it comes in before I decide. I would be more with Bryan and lower the rear slightly if I did anything.

I do cut off the tail pipe though, I hate the look of tail pipes on the side in full view all nasty and dirty from the road dirt. It's a tic.o_O

It looks so much cleaner without it. I let it dump under the rear axle. Never had any problems with my other 3 trucks I've done it to and no carbon build up either.

Got a positive update from my dealer today. He said that that he got word from Ford that the truck doesn't require any additional parts and that the running boards can be fixed with a software update.

He may just be saying that so I don't go run off and buy a new Ram, though. So probably take with a grain of salt.

I would think if the running boards could be easily fixed with software update - they could push the update over the new "over the air" system all at once and ship the trucks. Not sure it is a software update thing.

It could be.

You know how you can stop a power window from going all the way up by putting pressure against the glass. They may just need to increase the amount of pressure allowed before the running boards retract.

Not sure that would be a feature they have available for over the air update but it might. Either way that would be much faster than waiting on parts and installing.

They just had to make the change and then test it in the very cold environment and see if it worked.

I hope it is true!

Video has power running boards on them.
I see it has the co-pilot 360 on the sticker. You think they could have washed them first.

For real! You’d think those trucks would be clean from the factory, but after sitting around in a warehouse or on a lot up north for several weeks, being shipped on a train, transported on a semi, and then sitting again for several days, they get dirty! That’s why you gotta clay bar them as soon as you take delivery!

OTA updates need a WiFi connection.
They'd need a really strong WiFi signal to reach all those trucks in all the very large lots the trucks are currently parked.

I believe they can do the over the air updates via the trucks cellular connection that provides the in truck WiFi and on the road navigation updates.

I agree that Wifi would be better for OTA updates, but they would need to setup every truck to connect to it if they did setup a strong Wifi at the factory lot. So I agree that is not going to happen.

Not sure about all models, but KR and Platinum (and most likely Limited) come with Ford Pass Connect with 4G LTE WIFI hotspot.

These trucks will be able to connect to wifi at the dealer, or at your house, for the OTA updates, and won't need to use the cellular.

If you don't have a strong wifi signal in your garage now, you might was well go out and get a range extender while you're waiting around for your truck to get built/shipped/delivered.

From what I have read the power running board issues appear to be a binding issue in cold weather this will most likely require a new part of some type of physical modification to the assembly not a software update.

I guess there are at least 3 potential issue / fixes

1) Simple OTA update or reprograming of the force required to trip the safety feature (however the safety of the increased force would have to be tested)
2) Hardware change / modification to reduce the force required to open the boards.
3) Potential replacement of the Servo motors if the reverse force level is built in and cannot be adjusted.

Lets hope for the best, we won't know the answer until the service bulletin is issued. The fact that the initial notification only listed truck built before Dec 2 would indicated that this has been fixed in production and that the fix is known for the affected trucks.

No problem, my pleasure. Yeah I would say that it won't ship as it's technically a bit of a safety hazard. I couldn't imagine going to step on the running board and having it go in and potentially falling/tripping :p Wouldn't be good for Ford hahaha! It's much quicker for them to resolve this at the factory than shipping trucks to dealers, only to have to wait for new parts to be shipped to the dealer and THEN fixing it. Sounds more time consuming to me.
