APIM VIN Locked according to FDRS

I bought a new (to me) 2021 F150 about two months ago. Over the last two days, I undertook the massive list of updates in FDRS. Every update went through successfully, aside from the APIM. My SYNC is stuck and won't update OTA, so I anticipated a challenge and didn't really think the USB update would work. I was hopeful, though, that by using a USB cable & network cable with the TSB 22-2404 process, I could kickstart it and get out of update hell. However, I am immediately greeted with a message in FDRS that my VIN is locked out, screenshot below.

My question: is this thing totally hopeless? I've read everything I could find and it seems like the only hope is that maybe, someday if I leave the USB stick connected long enough and the stars alight right it will decide to pull the update off USB? Or the APIM needs to be replaced. What says the hive mind?

Doesn't hurt to leave the USB stick plugged in.

Hey @Jesse-Infotainment , do you have any thoughts on the above? I can't believe that Ford just ignores these modules, it's got to just be a software issue?

Best thing in these situations is to create the update put it in the truck and drive around until it decides to kick off. Usually takes a month. Ive seen some get lucky and it kicks off in a couple days.

Really the only thing to do or replace the apim. Usually though its a matter of being patient. Ive only seen one or two that wouldnt update at all even after a couple months.

OK, I'll try to be patient. Not my strong suit, but I'll give it a go. What is involved with an APIM replacement? I have seen lots of references to people having it done but very little info on people doing it themselves, even with FDRS. Is the APIM integrated into the screen or a separate module?

Its a seperate module behind the hvac controls. Not that hard to get to.

Cool. Are they VIN locked or is it possible to get a used one and reprogram?

No vin stored in apim.

Your issue will be you have to get one at the same version you’re at now or the version of the update you’re attempting to install which is 21146

That seems like it would be pretty challenging. Do you or anyone in the aftermarket provide the units programmed to a specific version?

Wish really hard and drive around with USB in. There have been about half dozen posts this year of the USB process working for stuck trucks in the FDRS thread. If that fails Jesse has a new customer. ?
