2018 Volvo XC60 and 23' Tremor 5.0 ordered.
depends on your area. where i am in canada we get a lot of snow, so 4x4 is a must. had a fwd car, which even with winters it struggled in fresh snow on our street. talking about a foot or more of fresh. packed was fine. our awd volvo with winters did great. big issue was just clearance getting through a lot of the snow and snow banks from plows or even snow drifts that would stuff a car's rad. if you are pavement only and a don't see any inclement weather, than it's 4x2. but beware that most people (non-car type) look for 4x4 always.

I'm in Florida so no issues with snow. Budget IS..I'm a 100% disabled Navy vet, 69 years old and buying a new truck to drive off into the sunset lolol! I built and priced the identical XL short bed and the difference in MSRP is about 5 grand. I'm not sure that is worth it that's why I posted this thread. Sure I guess it's better to have it and not need it but in the last few years inflation has absolutely had a impact on my pension. I know I can make the payment either way but it would make some difference. To many folks here I know it doesn't. More than anything I wanted to ask the opinion of folks who actually own, drive and use what I'm getting.
Having good off road tires and the locker will probably suffice in my situation. No boat, dont tow and actually don't drive many miles period. I'm going to look at a front winch as a option but I have the feeling some recovery gear on the truck will probably do.
Thank you for your service! If you ever get stuck in Houston area shoot me a PM. ?

Thanks so much for all your imput! I made my final decision today to go with the basic 2 wheel drive. It really came down to need for it and I really don't with my lifestyle and use. If I was 10-15 years younger and still doing a lot of fishing and outdoor activities I probably would for the 'just in case' thing but without it it makes fo a real bargain too..
For those of you who might be considering a 2024 XL here's real numbers for you to consider (with rear privacy glass..)
Invoice after-4% :$35,843.00
Out the door ALL taxes fees ect..$38,352.00
8 year 100K Zero deductible, enhanced rental and key fob:
$2,200.00
Grand Total: $40,552.00
That's the BEST price I think it's possible to buy a new well equipped F-150..With 8 years and 100 thousand "Where is my loaner?" Dodge and Chevy can't come remotely near that..
Plus ya get the 5.0!!!

WalterMitty I mentioned the Super Cab to show the cost of adding 4×4 on it is much cheeper (over $1,100.00) than on a single cab. I tried to build ANY F-150 with a 8' bed and the only configuration is a single cab. But the only truck that I am considering is a single cab. With a 6.5' bed. I was hoping that I would get a 36 gallon tank because I love being able to 'have it and not need it' but the single cab is 23. It has turned out that the 2024 single cab restrictions is absolutely perfect for me. 5.0 12" screen 3.73 locker and the hitch to carry a scooter. I didn't want carpet or chrome. Believe me I looked for a 2023 equipped similar to possibly save a little but none..zero.. are out there. A few with a 8' bed came close but all had a higher MSRP.

I found out today that even when the truck says you have "0" miles to go and you are 2 miles from the gas station it still has plenty left in it because I was only able to get 21.7 gallons in mine.

I don't like the gas gauge. Something about it reads wrong to me and I don't pay attention to it so much. Maybe I just miss the needle or something.

I learned my 2015 Honda dosen't lie much..I was on zero miles and filled it up and it took almost half a gallon over the listed capacity.

4 Wheel Drive is only for getting you butt out of a situation that you never have gotten into if you didn’t have 4 Wheel Drive.

That being said and growing up in the mountains of Idaho, I was never too fond of driving our 3/4 ton 76 Chev 4x4 on icy roads. Truck was sprung too stiff (no weight transfer at all) and it had no idea where it wanted to go when in 4 Wheel. The 2Wheeler was not a lot better, but very different. Just couldn’t get that thing rolling.
I preferred the plain ol Plymouth Fury Gran Coupe on the ice With Michelin X radials. Kept a teenager civil and sane.

However, hard packed snow, slush, unpaved roads, I would take that 76 K 20 every time. Very positive and went where it was pointed.

Still remember going out 2nd week of September to lock in the hubs for the winter. That way we didn’t have to do it when the 4x4 was needed, just shift to 4x4 and go.
Middle of April, they were unlocked.
Did not seem to hurt it one little bit.

Now, I have the 4x4s just to get out of my back yard.

Depends entirely where you live or what kind of hobbies you have.
For me it was always a just in case, till now. Living in a snowy region with mountains you rarely see a 2wd around.
I use mine everyday just to get to my house. Heck, I’m now looking to add a winch ?

I live in northern Minnesota far back in the woods just off of a state forestry road. It is truly paradise where I live but a 4X4 is an absolute necessity in the winter months. There is no possible way I could do with a two wheel drive.

did you order the rear locker?

don’t forget with forscan you can pile pretty much any upgrade in there you want

I work outside and my hands are always brutally frozen so I added a heated steering wheel full factory style for under 500 bucks

with the 5.0 your truck is absolutely going to rip

Not meant to derail the thread but since the OP has already bought his truck….I installed the front Torsen diff on my STX and it is awesome. If you really depend on a 4WD pickup especially living out in the woods, adding this Torsen differential makes a huge difference.
