Best Tonneau / Bed-liner combo that minimizes Payload hit?

Thanks for the suggestions all. I may just bite the bullet and go with what my local place has which is called Patriot liner (spray in). 90% of the time this truck is not going to have a travel trailer behind it, and in all honesty, I wouldn't be opposed to being forced into a smaller one for the sake of logistics.

I have a Pace Edwards Ultragroove tonneau (60 lbs?) and a bedrug (~15 lbs). Like many others, I was concerned with the hit to payload, so I like that they're both easily removable, so I could recover that hit to payload if necessary.

In practice, I haven't actually removed either of them; I think that I'd rather be over payload by a bit and still have them on.

Nobody here steps on a scale or asks their passengers to before loading up the truck. My truck is a 13th gen but pretty much the same considerations. Access vanish tonneau is super light. under 10 lbs total.

Bed liner? Why bother? I know, can't bear to scratch that precious painted bed... that you'll never see. Why protect something that only suffers aesthetic damage? I sure dont get why people want to blow hundreds of dollars and 40-50 lbs of payload capacity on a cosmetic item.

A spray on bed lining is the best way to go. No issues with the use of accessories like racks with the bed of the truck. The top is not important as the weight is compensated by having less air drag at freeway speeds.

Easy enough to add an additional leaf spring at the rear to increase load capacity and over stability but not likely to be needed for towing a travel trailer. More of a concern with a 5th wheel trailer where the passenger class tires will be the weight limitation.

I tried searching and couldn't find anyone asking a similar question.

I would like to get a tonneau to cover the bed and a bedliner to cover the bottom. What combination would have the lowest hit to my payload number, but provide acceptable quality and protection? I know we'll be buying a travel trailer in the coming months, so I'd like to avoid too big of a hit if at all possible. Definitely would not be opposed to something I could completely take out when towing.

Literally no obstructions to your load in your bed. People poo-poo the soft cover, but in 12 years of owning three trucks with TCs, Ive never had an issue. Pops off in 2-3 mins, rolls up and stores neatly, compactly and installs again in 5 mins....

Apparently you havent see then hundreds of post talking about clear bras and ceramic coatings protecting from aesthetic damage? No one likes to see scratched up paint, whether it be your hood, door or bed.

Lol. The tonneau cover hides the bed, so who cares if you see little scratches when you open it up to use the bed? I kind of like them, actually. Shows you actually do truck stuff, as opposed to the guys with a vacuumed rug who apparently actually just wanted a car with a big trunk.

Your heavy spray liner of noxious chemicals just gets it own scuffs anyway, and eventually flakes apart in a disgusting mess. I guess you can double down at that point and respray it to have double the payload loss.

Touche. I bought my '19 in february and it came with the OE plastic liner. First thing I did was rip that big dumb, noisy, slippery, heavy, rattly thing out. Its for sale if anyone wants it dirt cheap....

I went with the Undercover SE.

It's waterPROOF (not water "resistant") and I can remove & replace it by myself in 15min.

Through car washes and even with the torrential rains of 2022-23 my bed has NEVER seen a drop of water.

I have one too, but if you can replace it yourself, you must have the wingspan of an NBA player!

Heh and joke trolling or not you bring up good points. I think our beds are aluminum also now... so that deletes the argument of, "scratches lead to rust". I know guys that leave it bare metal their entire ownership and shoot a spray-in the second they post it for sale... nice eye candy to see that nice bed in a used truck...

Yep, alum bed since 2015. I never had a liner in my prior truck either, a steel bed 2500hd from 2003. With a tonneau to keep the bed from ever getting salty, the hundreds of scratches never rusted! The paint was super thick, I guess most scratches only got down to primer? My bare f150 bed seems to be scratching a little easier.... And I haven't even run any forklifted pallets in it yet. The sound of hundreds of lbs pressing one protruding pallet nail into the bed surface, as a rookie fork-truck driver at home depot loads you up.... is definitely hard to listen to.

Its an access vanish that I loved, but from circa 2015. So I bought another access vanish for my '19 F150 this last february and I am sad to say that the quality went way downhill. It's already coming apart, I need to contact them and see what can be done to make things right.
