BFG KO2 vs Toyo Open Country AT3

I will probably ditch the stock Hankooks after the summer. I’ll go with 285/60/20 which is to me, the perfect upsize - I tend to like the “factory +” look - improved but not obvious.

I’ve pretty much narrowed it down to BFG KO2 or Toyo AT3. I want an aggressive look but spend a good bit of time on the highway so road noise is a consideration. I had BFG on my last truck and didn’t think they were that much louder than a street tire.

Anyone who’s driven either or BOTH please weigh in! Convince us why YOUR pick is the best! ?

Been running toyo at3’s for about 1,000 mi now and I’m so impressed. The tire is light, quiet, and aggressive. Dry and wet performance is amazing, braking is as good if not better than stock. When driving 50+ in the rain the tires are whisper quiet. The tire runs true to size unlike the K02s. The only negative I have with them is they collect rocks pretty easily, which you have to expect and be aware of when going to an AT tire. The tires have been absolutely amazing so far.

Also balance them with balancing beads it’s such a game changer!

Have 295/65/ R20 AT3's on the 150 now.
Toyos arent terrible but road noise is there above 40 (they do have a more aggressive tread pattern)
Havent had the AT3's in Snow/ Ice or major rain but in 2wd in shallow mud they cleaned well.

Had KO2's on a different vehicle. I have found that the KO2's have a little less road noise.
Snow/ ice performance was good.

Between the 2 i like the look of the AT3's

I've got the AT3s in 275/65/20 on my truck with a leveling kit. Zero rub. Pretty much echo the comments above. They've finally started making a little noise at 14k miles but I still consider them to be very quiet.

I am a die hard BFG fan. KO2's helped me even love them more. I love raised white letters. Have had countless sets on Wranglers, 4Runners, F250's. 99% road. Just bad seasonal weather and not wanting to be stuck in grass like stock tires can.
With that said I wanted 22's this round, and BFG was not an option for my sizing. So I went with Toyo AT3 and I am very happy with them. More noise than stock of course, but very smooth driving, handling, rain is great. And I think they are a hair less off road looking than the BFG KO2's which I wanted this round. No regret at all. One thing I noticed on the BF's was once they wore half way or so, they just got louder and louder. Our last 4Runner was terrible.

My vote is now Toyo AT3 (OR I would preffer the new Falken WildPeak AT3 also but again not an option in my size)

How’s your mileage with that setup? I’m expecting a 2-3 mpg hit.

I've taken a hit of 3-4 mpg since switching from the stock setup.

Not sure how a lift affects mpg but I'm averaging over 22 mpg with stock tires and a level. Heavier tires and off-road tread pattern will definitely affect it.

20x9 +1 offset Fuel Rebels on 285/60/20 tires. 2.5” motofab level kit up front. I am able to run the Ford mud flaps with this setup and only occasionally have a slight rub on the flaps backing out of a driveway.

2.5” level, however, all of the extra fuel consumption comes from the added weight of the tires and wheels. Possibly some loss due to more aggressive tread pattern. I had a similar setup on my previous ‘20 3.5 with the same results. Put the stock tires and wheels back on (kept the level) and drastically improved fuel economy for a few weeks before trading it in.
